That said, the backgrounds scenery details often makes for the most enjoying viewing.
That's pretty much why we RV -- spending three days behind the wheel going halfway across the country is relaxing. It's not a matter of economics -- I'm "retired" from an airline and we can fly for free, but the last place I want to spend any of my free time is at an airport. Probably why I don't do flight sims.
If you like what you see here at Trainsim.com, be it the discussions and knowledge in the forums, items saved in our library or the ongoing development of our TSRE Fork, I hope you'll consider a paid membership to help support keeping the site operating.... Thanks!

I really enjoy driving in the sim. I really don't much like driving in the real world. Real world driving means speed bumps, pot holes, bad drivers, traffic congestion... The sim eliminates most of the things that make real world driving unpleasant (except for the bad drivers...the AI vehicles are pretty dangerous!)

Flight simming is much the same. Many of the flightsim companies go out of their way to make things real, i.e. planes that you can walk around and pre-flight, "persistent" aircraft where the state of the plane at the end of one flight carries over to the next meaning things actually wear out and require maintenance. In the real world these are things that are a headache and an expense, so having done them for years in the sim I'd rather avoid them. Fortunately the sim allows just putting me at the end of the runway, engine running and ready to go and lets the fun part start right away without dealing with the tedious details :-)

Missoula to Forth Worth, 1,669 miles. If only ATS was 1:1 scale.

That's one heck of a drive. Though I caught an ETS2 clip on YouTube of someone with ProMods who got an Iceland to Saudi run.

I still need to expand ATS got a bit behind with about 4 states to add now.

Bit of a drive Vern and the Pete 362 is really underpowered with that load.

I put a 600hp prime mover in her as well. Might be the gearing on the 18 speed gearbox.

Thats a big change of enviroments, Iceland to Saudi. One thing i don't mind with the two truck sims, is keeping my dlc up to date.

Doesn't cost an arm and a leg, like the train games dlc.

                Regards,
                Mike.

Will probably start with Montana then Texas. Have read a few reviews on Steam that seem to indicate some of the newer maps are a bit off scale wise and of course being a fairly flat area of the US don't offer so much scenic interest.

I can't comment Vern, have no idea what the areas look like in reality.

But game wise i never get bored with the surroundings, in any of the states.

I am using a couple of mods now, that give me only classic ai trucks and cars on the roads.

So no more modern stuff appearing.

Just dropped in Montana. Looking good so far. Can't believe it's nearly two years since I last played the game (June '22). Got a lot of catching up to do!

Great stuff Vern, i enjoy all the different states. But the later ones, are definitely better than the older ones. But there again SCS is in the process of updating all the older dlc. Wow 2 years, it's been a while for me. But less than 6 weeks.

Might get Texas next after the SimRail DLC refund clears.

Not a bad little gaming roster ATM, bit of ATS, Run 8, admit guilty to TSW (revamped LIRR comes out today) and one or two others. Funnily enough I prefer ATS to ETS2, maybe because it reminds me of driving on holiday in the States years ago. Also some of the ETS2 maps are really ancient with artificial tunnels dividing up zones.

Have to say those 1.50 version preview clips look amazing. If that was DTG they would be charging us £40 for a new version of the game. Animated loading should be fun and looking forward to driving through Yosemite and down the California coast highway!

I love Texas, probably due to all the old cowboy films and tv series i grew up with in the 1950's and early 60's. I can only concentrate on one game at a time Vern, so at the moment it is TSC with all modern routes. If it was DTG the updates would be in two parts and they would be £40 each. Fair play to SCS they do go that extra mile and listen to their customers.

California Dreaming is it buddy 🤣🤣.
