Thanks to an early Christmas present of Covid from Santa, don't think I'll be doing much testing until it clears up a bit, certainly not any dispatching. Well I've dodged it this long, hopefully just a mild Omicron dose but feeling like you've got a cold and flu together not conducive to concentrating on much.

Oh dear oh dear Vern, bad luck. Get well soon buddy. Not sure if i have ever had it. I was really ill in Jan this year, but that could have been flu or the black death
I have just been accepted onto the Trainz Plus Alpha test for the new session creation system and HD terrain thingie.

Actually having the hammer down was the issue. I found out that wheelslip is the issue. Got to take it smooth and easy. The issue I found unlike say a Run8 is I would get both an indicator and know how many amps would cause it. I did manage to get through on the next try of the tutorial just had to get better with throttle management. It is the most challenging train I've run yet. But I'm gong to try the commuter tutorial today and see how I make out.
Thanks
Sean

Part of the issue you may be having is knowing when the servers are down or resetting. They reset every 3 hours from midnight EST or 6 hours later in Poland CET I believe it's called. All servers seem to be set on CET in the sim now which is fine by me.
If you go to this link you will see the reset take place starting with the Polish server at the top of the hour and they reset 1 by 1.
Joining at the start allows you to avoid too many known issues. I usally can get a 2 hour run in when I get the train that is scheduled. Otherwise I just start my tour of duty in SG.
I've noticed this is catching on and spots go fast on some of the more popular servers. But this is the best time to grab something I find.
Thanks

I hope people don't confuse Vern's house for a blood-donor clinic, now that it has a red cross on the door!IBM XT i386; 512Kb RAM; 5.25" FDD; 1.4Mb FDD; 5Mb HDD; VGA 256-colour graphics card; AdLib soundcard; DR DOS 6.0; Windows 3.0

I tried MP yesterday afternoon and found that there is (at least) one Australian server...and nice low ping numbers, too.
Ran that locomotive with the "steering wheel"....for about 16 kms. A couple of other trains went past me in the opposite direction - no idea if they were AI or human-controlled.
Came to the end of that "all green" run, slowed for a red and stopped short. Couldn't get the thing moving again...tried all the things you'd do in any other sim but to no avail.
Came to the conclusion that this really needs a decent tutorial, preferably in the form of a manual/set of written instructions.IBM XT i386; 512Kb RAM; 5.25" FDD; 1.4Mb FDD; 5Mb HDD; VGA 256-colour graphics card; AdLib soundcard; DR DOS 6.0; Windows 3.0

Probably the green release brake button if the yellow metter on the UI was showing air in the pipe. There is a tutorial for this and the other engines in the single player but I haven't tried this one in particular. It's not perfect and I do agree some manuals including those for the signal boxes are something that will be needed before a full version.
As for the servers and their locations Poland is not in the war zone and if that happened we would have much more to worry about then a train server. The only thing that has strayed into Poland so far is a Ukranian arrant missile about a month or so ago.
The actual servers are located around the world so North America is in North America, and as mentioned Australia is in Austrailia, UK, and all other countries. They seem to reset 1 by 1 however and that looks like it starts from Poland works it's way to the UK and North America then every other country on the map. My concern about this is not misiles or war zones, but what happens if the people running the server decided it's not cost effective to run the servers any longer. So I agree (not because of the war) that there should be local servers. Better single player stuff is on the way (right now is only play test tutorials).
Thanks

Sean, I don't really give a rats' where the servers are located, so long as the ping is workable.
Poland, Latvia, North America, Lower Slobovia....it is really of no concern so long as any lag is not excessive.
User Instructions/Manuals - in multi languages - are essential if SimRail is to have a world-wide appeal and any English manual must be in English English.
Downloadable PDF would be ideal.
Now some questions to all you blokes who have been into this sim more than I have:-
1. Why do I keep losing amps when I (seem to) accelerate too quickly?
2. What is meant by the throttle bar turning from orange to green?
3. When are the shunt steps put into use?
4. In Poland, are the signals on the left or on the right of the track? I was confused when in a large yard.
5. Are the approach signals in Poland really orange or have they made the colour too intense? Should it be more yellow?
I ran for over an hour in MP today (Aussie server) and to be honest, I found it very enjoyable but whether the signals were AI or human operated, I have no idea.IBM XT i386; 512Kb RAM; 5.25" FDD; 1.4Mb FDD; 5Mb HDD; VGA 256-colour graphics card; AdLib soundcard; DR DOS 6.0; Windows 3.0

If you go over around 600 amps the overload trip will activate and needs to be reset with one of the buttons on the panel before taking power again.
The green throttle is supposed to indicate optimum and efficient control settings, I think one of the tutorials touches on that.
Start applying the shunt steps at Notch 28, or 43 but at 43 going to Shunt 6 can surge the amps.
From what I can see signals are on the right, generally.
Not sure about amber vs yellow.Vern.
