Agree Mike. Still haven't been back on it pretty much since buying the full release. Even Run 8 has better support for SP and that really did start out primarily as a MP game with SP as an afterthought.

I'd imagine the content creators and the game coders don't have a lot of overlap. We certainly haven't seen that in the other sims to date... you're either one or the other.
If you like what you see here at Trainsim.com, be it the discussions and knowledge in the forums, items saved in our library or the ongoing development of our TSRE Fork, I hope you'll consider a paid membership to help support keeping the site operating.... Thanks!

Spot on Vern and my only gripe with R8 has been the 2D vegetation. Everything else is brilliant, operational wise. As you say the SP part of R8 is now fully realised and i get a lot of use out of it. Still AI route learning on the Roseville Sub, something i enjoy doing a lot.

Neither is there friction within the R8 community. Between the SP'ers and the MP'ers. But on the SimRail forum, you get nothing but being talked down to. For wanting anything to do with the SP part of the game.

Fairplay Eric, i understand what you are saying.

As there doesn’t seem much point doing much with TSW before the new version drops, been revisiting Simrail the last couple of evenings. It's not too bad though despite trying to fine tune the graphics settings still getting a large amount of stuttering, certainly compared to TSC and TSW both of which have a much greater draw distance than the max 2km of Simrail.

Driving experience is generally still good, though no real advancement seems to have been made with the single player game - either adding a save game/checkpoints or the full timetable. In fact having AI trains spawn on a SP run still appears on the to do list. The route has been extended with part of the line from Psary to Krakow added, though this is largely much of the same - fairly level mid European plains.

MP seems to have settled down but most of the servers appear deserted. EN1 seems to be the only active English language server, was moderately busy when I went on. Everyone seemed to be acting reasonably and talking politely to each other, so hopefully the silliness and griefing that marred the early part of release has passed by.

The new EN57 EMU is looking good and once it appears in game I will be taking it for a spin to relive memories of the old Mechanik MS-DOS game.

I really need to take another crack at the signalling side again, think one of the dead servers like CN1 (China) the best place to make a fool of myself.

Of course technically the game is still in Early Access, they seem to be dragging that out a bit - in addition to the single player needs, there is no sign of the editors either.

Still, not an unpleasant experience. It's never going to replace TSC, TSW or Run 8 as my preferred sim but worth an occasional play.
          Vern.

I went on their forum yesterday, no game updates since May i think it was. The forum is nearly dead and on facebook it is just more hollow promises, for this that and the other. Still no save game for SP and i do not do MP, so SR will not be installed here in a hurry Vern.

Out of all of them Run8Studios, is the only developer that does what they do and no waffle. Does not make promises they are never going to keep. Plus do not continually tell lies to their customer base.

Does SimRail support a joypad, changing keys or RailDriver yet like other train sims do?

Very true Mike. I noted the forum seemed to be fairly quiet, even the thread I popped on there a day or two ago only got one response.

Probably back on TSW or Run 8 this evening!

Don't know about you Vern. But i really do get fed up of the same old rubbish, week in week out. I would really love some positive news from one of these developers. Although i do have to come clean and admit. I did re-preorder TSW4 on Saturday, after cancelling it. Just so i can have my TSW2 addons to play and also purchase the Peak Rail route. Might have a look at the route editor, but it probably needs a degree in rocket science to use 🤣

I fear you might be right, which is why I'll still keep TRS19/22 hanging around for a bit of route building. There is some sort of stream tonight demonstrating the editor. I won't be watching live but will grab the highlights on YT. The other issue is going to be hosting as some of the route files in the game are huge. Even if the assets are just referenced I reckon routes could be nearly 1Gb even zipped up which could overwhelm file libraries like the one here.
                    Vern.

Thanks for the info on the editor stream Vern. Probably watch the whole thing, but not live. Agreed the size of the files could be a problem for file sites. Sods law now that we have overcome the problem of downloading large files. I have full fibre to the house, so a GB file is a very fast download.

Watched a vid on YT of the Peak Rail route on Friday, which is why i re-ordered TSW4. The 4F model looks stunning, shame about the smoke and steam effects though. Trainz style 10 years ago quality. I can probably get a lot of play time out of it with free roam and shunting the yards.

                      Mike.

Just to keep this thread going, I’ve been playing SimRail the last few evenings and thoroughly enjoying it. There is enough variety now in the routes and trains that if you look at one of the server reference maps you never need to make the same run twice. All the previous angst about misbehaviour seems to have dispersed and everyone seems very well behaved and polite. I even had a go at signalling on a couple of the quiet servers, which is quite interesting though it can get a bit boring in real time with gaps between trains, unlike the single player signalling games like SimSig where you can speed things up when nothing is happening.

Anyhow I can thoroughly recommend SimRail, if you are getting fed up with the same stale formula DTG are delivering with TSW4 it provides a change of scenery and perspective. Hopefully the eagerly awaited EN57 EMU and steam loco are not too far off.
                          Vern.

Uninstalled, another developer that said one thing on launch and is now doing another.
It was supposed to be out of early access by now, for one thing.
SP and MP were equally touted as viable game modes. But they are not, all the emphasis is on MP.
They join the ranks of DTG and N3V, all mouth and no trousers.

I do agree with you on the EA and the SP issues Mike, though I'm going to persist with it for a bit. Running some of the threads in their Polish section through Google Translate, seems anything that asks too many searching questions gets locked. Saw one that claimed the EA period won't end until May next year. I somehow doubt they will ever give us the promised save game for single player.
                              Vern.

Oh dear Vern, that does not sound very encouraging. Shutting down posts, because they ask too many difficult questions.
More than likely not capable of putting a save function in the game buddy. Just like DTG only provide one save slot.
It's all so very disappointing, i wish to god i didn't have an interest in railways. Anyway enough whinging, i am going to try and re-aquaint myself with the DRS route editor. Been so long since i did anything and i believe Oskari has changed a lot of the functionality and menu's. i just have to try and look past the east european track outline 😀.

                                Cheers,
