    Railroader Passenger Update

This weekend we got a very much needed and powerful addition to Railroader. The passengers now will stop at any station they are set to stop at in the cars screen. They will pass by anything they are not assigned if you want to run a limited or express. Stop time defaults to 10 minutes for all stops, but you can modify it to your liking (for example I use 5).

The cool thing about this is I run scheduled passenger trains now (3 of them at a time) spawning from all 3 current ends and wind up having a familiar meets at Ela or Bryson depending on which train it is. In fact the Bryson one I've been able to hit 2 rolling meets while dispatching, working on the yard at Bryson, or simply railfanning others.

For me this is something I haven't seen in a simulator of this level. The best I've seen before is Run8 that simply has the train stop and then continue after a few minutes. I'm sure there are others I'm not familiar with out there but it really makes it much more fun in dealing with your freight then trying to manage all these passengers with fuses etc.

    Thanks

Sean, How do you get the trains to reverse direction automatically?

I played day one and used the Fusee's to stop the train in front of the station, but then I'd have to teleport to the station, click the car, click it's destination and then go into the engine and change it's direction.

Sounds like there's a way to setup all this once and then it's all auto pilot from there?

Interesting development though for some reason I just can’t motivate myself to pick this up and start playing again. Haven’t even got the first bridge finished. Dusting off Run 8 hasn’t helped in that respect but with roughly two hours of gaming time a day it has become hard to triage between the various games that interest me!

Vern, I'm a bit in the same boat, and I honestly think the #1 thing keeping me from playing railroader more is the camera/control scheme.
        It's so awkward!
I've delivered the first set of cars to the bridge.
I mistakenly thought it was going to be "one and done" but no.
Then I mistakenly thought if I brought the empties back from the bridge, and put it in the interchange yard, I'd have new stuff the next day.
Nope. Had to "buy" the next set of cars but now those aren't ready for a whole additional game day.

The only expansion track wise I don't have and haven't started is to Andrews. I'm pretty content on what I have right now and will need to invest in more power first. You can also play where everything is available in sandbox mode. But I'm on day 26 right now (game time) and having the time of my life.

          Thanks

Looks like I didn't answer a question here. The trains don't automatically reverse though they are working on something. The only thing the passengers will do is automatically stop for a selectable amount of time and continue based on the stations you have selected passengers to come on. When it reaches the last station you'll either have to have fuse to stop it or stop the train manually.

Right now I run a schedule of 3 passenger services at one time while myself and other crews (if available) work the rest of the railroad's freights. I takes me a good 15 minutes before departure to make sure the engines are serviced and passengers are loading. You manually start the trains on the journey the rest is automated provided track is avialable for them to run (like any other AI set-up). There is no AI dispatching I take care of that (or others can).

We have been short a crew or two lately due to work and other issues. The only two running are myself and Scott. Despite this we are able to simply run a slightly longer day and get all the stuff done. In fact this could be done in single player with an even longer day. You also have the option of dialing back the tier levels. You control how much you want to expand.

A good example of this for me right now is this is very much like CN runs through my area (though not as big of trains) they run the same amount of trains. This was exactly what I was hoping in a run8 route at one time but we never quite got there. Every one of the 28 days we've run so far have similarities but I find every day is different in some respects be it meets, available crews, number of waybills at different locations, etc.

My YouTube has exploded recently as I'm just shy of the magic 1K subscribers that will help me monetize my channel. Regardless I'm having a blast just with Railroader alone.

            Thanks
