    Changes to Forums - February

There have been a few small changes lately, here's a quick recap...
    • Open Rails forums have been moved ahead of the MSTS forums. That's not based on my preference, but on where activity has drifted.
    • A new sub-forum has been created under General where all of the obituary posts will be collected. These had been pinned posts in various subforms, and as time has moved on I thought it was more appropriate to keep them in one place.
    • The time to edit your own posts has been extended from 30 minutes. Hopefully this will avoid some of the need to make multiple posts per day and to make corrections that you discover later in the day...
    • Posts prior to 2013 have been locked to new comments.
    • Screenshot threads prior to 2013 are in the process of being removed. These tend to be attachment heavy or have outdated links to web hosted images. They also see no new view activity. There's a poll active to voice your opinions on what a reasonable timeframe shoukd be for screenshot retention:

If you like what you see here at Trainsim.com, be it the discussions and knowledge in the forums, items saved in our library or the ongoing development of our TSRE Fork, I hope you'll consider a paid membership to help support keeping the site operating.... Thanks!

The new "We Remember" Forum is a touch of class. Thank you.

Silly question, but why not have say, posts prior to 2018 locked? Or maybe even prior to 2021?

Ten years is where I started. It may move to five years as time permits, but there's a lot of other cars in the yard to switch right now...

I had an idea on a way to save server space. People post screenshots for everyone to view. Some post several screenshots at once and some people like to comment, sometimes just to say 'nice shot'. Instead of just saying "Nice shots Fred" they quote the post and they screenshot(s) are included in the reply. The average screenshot these days would be about 600 KB, and they maximum number of screenshots per post is ten, so a reply to a post that is quoted could be 6 MB just to say 'nice shots'. This happens daily, and even with the new retention being a couple of years this would add up.

ET is set up so you can quote any post your reply to but if that post has attachments or images, they are removed from the reply. Might consider doing something like that here.

          Paul :-)
