    TSAPA (anti piracy authority)

In light of resent events, I am calling on the members of the forum to form the TSAPA, or the Train Simulators Anti-Piracy Authority, note plural for simulators! This group will be a authority to controll and enforce the railroad simulator copyrights. I suggest that it be led by one of the moderators. I will join as a member, but not as a high ranking person, I think only the best should lead. I have heard NALW has had thier work pirated, so this might intrest you.

Great idea, maybe that will help stop the pirating. I hate it when people take stuff that's not rightfully theirs. That is just about as low as someone can go.

So, I will make a list,

          Founder and Intern president:
          Alexander NHtrain

          member:
          Sean Summer AKA Poltergeist

          member:
          John Netzlof

Mike Sadecki,or mrWM734, Would you like to join? I appoint my self intern president until someone who has a formidable position( such as a moderator) would like to volenteer. I will be a 1st officer. I hope to get a real president by Tuesdays at the latest. I think that appointing myself president, would just make this look liek I am trying to get power. I am only forming this to stop piracy.

          The ranks are,
          President: only 1
          1st officer (or VP): 2 or 3
          officer: about 5
          Look-out: all the rest

          Any other ideas?

                  This is interesting!

Say, are you hoping a lawyer will join? In case pirates will not cooperate?

Ok, ignore my jokes about the Mafia....but a lawyer would be good, I would think, so we can have something to back up the threats for legal action....

Not to bag on your idea because I think it's a valid cause, but I'm just curious...

How do you plan on controlling and enforcing copyrights?

Short of legal action, I see no way you could actually enforce anything.

Surely there's a train simming lawyer out there that could add some actual muscle.

                          Count me in.

As for controling, it's simple, print up a letter notifying the offending parties that they have broken the anti piracy acts set forth by the group, and if they do not remove the offending files (which are listed in the mail) that their ISP or web provider will be notified and they may lose their internet or even website.

Furthermore, the proper authorities would be notified, (I think it's the customs agency that handles such)

I think this is the only thing that will do any good.

From what I've seen, ISP's really only want your money. Generally if a complaint is received, they will send a message and wait for a rebuttle from the site owner before doing anything. (unless it's something obviously illegal for which the ISP or host could be held liable for hosting)

It's usually pretty easy for someone who is paying them money to make the ISP see their point of view. They tell the ISP how sorry they are and that they will take the files down. Most often, the worst the perpetrator gets is a slap on the wrist. They usually don't verify that the actual files were removed, and don't check back later to see if the files have been reposted.

So, if actual legal action is the intent, I wouldn't mind doing my part. (I'm no lawyer, but I'm a good watchdog )

But if the idea is to send the offenders petitions or something that really doesn't have any meaning, I don't see much point in wasting my time.

My point is, if we want to be effective, we need to have something to back us up if our efforts aren't taken seriously.

Hope you get a good attorney and lots of cash, and dont forget a real good detective to physically track down offending individuals to be able to haul them into court.

While your cause is noble and just, and I applaud you in your effort you need to realize that it will take way more than just forming a special interest group to to grab this bull by the horns!

Good luck in which ever way your endeavor leads you!

                              John ;-)
