Utah Railway 5005 in new G&W paint scheme

Here is the brand new paint scheme for the U&R (utah railway) which was bought be Genesee and Wyoming just recently. The 5005 is an MK5000 which has been completly redone. It is now a MK50-3 without the CAT engine.
Here is what they previously looked like.

Nice paint, saw a blurb about those on:

        deffinately 'unique' looking engines.

Not quite sure if I like the new scheme yet. At least the bigger fish (being G&W) decided to incorporate some utah features and keep the name. I remember when the first grey Utah Railway engines were painted and there were mixed feelings about them. Just about anything was better than the leasers with painted over logo's. Who knows... maybe G&W will invest some money in the line and make it more profitable.

                  NICE SHOTS!!

that paint made an ugly thing good looking!

I got some nice shots yesterday of some Australian Locos in G&W colours if anyone is interested. It wont be a while as the photos are at the start of the roll of film :'(

                  Thanks for the MK5000 shots

PS: Does Utah Railway still have it's SD50's? They were built for Hamersley Iron here in WA, built at GM's South Australian Plant in 198(?). They sent to Utah when HI took delivery of its new GE C44-9's. The SD50s in G&W colours would be terrific to see }>

                  Cheers
                  Mike

They use them all the time.

The only engine with G&W paint is the 5005. If they start painting the others I'll give you a heads up. ;-)

Now, if someone can model an MK50-3 cab we can "FreightAnim" it over the SD50 and I can repaint a UR Giant!

Is it just me, or is 5004's vents different then #5005's? #5005's side vents appear to resemble an SD60 more then #5004's.

I wonder why MPI has not developed a more-unique carbody though - I'm guessing because it's cheaper to buy the EMD components then make completely new ones.

                          Take care!

Kurt- I was wondering the exact same thing. That carbody has to have been modified.... Off picture hunting.

I;m back. http://www.drgw.net reports that these locomotives had the Cat's yanked out, and 16-645F and Q-tron shoved in, and the long hoods are from ex MP SD50's.

yes, the 5005 is no using the rear section of an SD50, where as the othe runit (5004) is using the old carbody style....
