    MSTS on Laptop

Running MSTS on laptop? Using April 2002 upgrade?

Had MSTS on Laptop, but had not used it lately. Had business trip earlier this month and loaded a beta of a soon to be released MSTS add-on on to laptop but did not try to run it till I stopped at motel first night of trip. MSTS would not run. No beta testing for a week. Finally had some time yesterday to uninstall MSTS from laptop then reinstalled. Ran OK. Today I downloaded the April 2002 update from MS and installed. Now it runs movie then just flashes when it goes to next screen. Three finger salute is all it understande then it wants to "phone home". Any ideas? Other than reinstall and don't install April 2002 update.

    RE: MSTS on Laptop

Don't know why you would have a problem running MSTS on a laptop, I run it on mine all the time. I have a Dell Latitude, P2 of some kind, and it runs quite well. I fly at least one round trip a week (unless I can get there on Amtrak), and while away the time running MSTS. The Rail Driver works on it as well. XP Professional. It ran on my older Compaq laptop, but too slowly on a Pentium 233 (natch). Does your machine meet the minimum hardware requirements listed on the box?

Now that I cogitate further, I bet your video system may have issies with DirectX.

I suggest there may be a problem with the video driver or perhaps some of the stuff the laptop manufacturers run in the background. Can you shut down any of that stuff? Another thought is to see if any other programs using Dirct X (whatever is the current version) will run. Let me know what you find out.

Just for the Halibut, on a trip from Dallas to Hawaii a while back, I brought along the RD. Made a power adapter to run it. I've got several million air miles, so I seldom ride in back, had plenty of room. Actually, it was a bit awkward, I just wanted to see the responses of the other folks.

You missed one major point in my original post. It ran OK w/o the April 2002 update but did not after I installed the April 2002 update.
