    "RESTART ACTIVITY" crashes MSTS

I'm having a problem. When I restart an activity, I get the the dark screen and the send/don't send message, and occasionly when I start an activity(either pre-programmed or self created). I recently altered my display settings but returned them to their original state. Since then, this problem has occurred. Explore routes work fine. This is system-wide on TS. Can anyone help? I'm currently at 1024X768X32. Won't work at 16 bit.

    Are you using MSTSBin?
    Are you using Train Store?

If not, you may wish to try them.

MSTS is getting overloaded, Train Store helps by only loading what is required for the one activity. (in easy mode)

Are You Sure this is why its doing this and not because of the screen res?

OK so then the screen res shound not be whats causeing this then? like I said in my first post I changed it but then put it back as to how it was setand then I have this going on before the change it worked fine up till that point. I just trying to narrow it down so I know what is going on. If you say msts is at it,s peak? Would one moe stick of memory fix this? TIA.

                Mate,

I don't know how long you want to work things out in your head.

I don't know how much ram you have so can't comment on adding more.

What is the problem with getting train store?

I have never used train store before and I have no clue about it. I know that you store routes and stuff like that.

MSTS runs on a wing and a prayer. There are several things that can cause it to stop working at any point in time. The less obvious things are too many routes, too much stock, too many consists, too many saves, not having the right versions of addin track and roads, missing scenery, the list goes on.

To cater for the first 3 items we have either Trainstore, or using Route Riter to set up mini installs, which can also be done manually. I have triede all 3 and have to say that for me, trainstore is by far the easiest option. It allows you to run MSTS with the minimum required, a route, an activity and the consists/stock for it.

Now, without knowing what you have in the way of memory in your computer, I have to conclude that in your case MSTS has reached a maximum of something and adding further memory will not solve the problem, because when the computer runs out of physical memory, it starts to use virtual memory, and pages out blocks of memory to the hard drive, recalling those when needed. Keep in mind also, that depending on your operating system, there could be a maximum of usable physical memory as well.

The only time I have had issues restarting activities, is if I made a mod to the player consist, AI consists, or the activity itself in general.
Are you trying to restart these activities after making any chnages to the activities componants, such as I listed?

                      Neil

edit - my apologies if I misread your issue. I am refering to restarting "saved" activities.

If you change an activity, saved sessions no longer work. Period.

I say this as a frustrated activity builder. It sure would be nice if I could start in the middle after fixing/adding something, but it is not possible. AFAIK.

Hi, Go into your Main Trainsim folder and look for a file called Saves ,this is where MSTS stores all the saved activities from the routes that you used and forgot that you saved something in.I and several other Simmers empty this on a weekly basis, all the folders in there should have nothing in them, you, and I sometimes, forget that you were half way through an activity when you saved it,see if that is the problem.

                          Regards

OK here is a update the Explore mold work,s and the defalt works fine. Any of the Acts I made will work but only when I first bring it up from a freash start. If I go back and try to restart it will crash right but I will first see a dark screen then it will say send/don,t send. So know Iam lost as what is going on here. Can someone here please sheld some light on what you may think is going on or have anyone here saw this kind of thing before? TIA. I have 2349 wagons. For locos I have 1467.. know the 2 routes I play the most is sandpatch and cr indy2 in all I think I got 8 routes plus what came with msts. I,am looking at maybe going with trainstore. The only thing is that I do not know much about it and would like to know if this would help what I got going on or could it be some consist?
