When I run the program the window sits half way over on the right of my screen and wont move. I tried running it in windowed mode, but it won't work. I don't know if this is a problem my computer is causing (though its never happened before) or if its a problem with the program itself. Any ideas?
You may have to go into your videocard settings and set it not to scale.
Are you using a widescreen monitor?
I Just tried the sim and... well, I am going outside to cut grass now. Hopefully the full version will have much more to offer.
Well i liked the demo and what caught me off guard was that the air compressor alarm caught me and this gives the people what the man or woman maning the tower the feel and look of it. Now only if we could see the trains though the window .
Standing by the tracks when a train is going by is like energy going through you .
..........I have always enjoyed Train Dispatcher (maybe because one of the rail sections included was where I grew up) but Tower Sim does not impress me based on the demo. I have deleted it and will spend the money on some of the excellent MSTS add-ons available. - Mike
Michael Brown .......... First Law of Safety Engineering - you can't fix stupid ... even with duct tape!!!

Well CJ if you do get a train coming through the window, 'ya threw the wrong switch !!!! LMAO
Not too sure if the environment changing to 3D or adding eye candy would help much for long time interest. Even on the Pennsy, replicating the job of a block tower operator on a four track main interlocking does not entail much dynamically for computer simulation. You could have tracks one and three OOS and have to do many diverting moves but still that would get old fast. Kind of like creating a simulator that puts you into the job of being a traffic cop.
Instead of using a tower placed at a simple four track interlocking, something like “Zoo” tower would be a great location. You have a very complicated infrastructure and have to deal with commuters, local freights, hot shots, drags, top notch passengers, and non-revenue equipment moves. Even though the scope is limited, maintain the schedule and keeping everything fluid during an AM or PM rush would keep you very busy with very limited dwell time as in this tower, you would be doing a job of more than one person.
A good friend of mine was a tower operator with the PRR and PC. He loved working everyday and has told me many stories. But, during his days on the railroad, he accumulated a good collection of nudy magazines.
Well, I guess I am one of the first ones here to say that I really like it and am looking forward to a full version...though yes, something along the lines of ALTO or F Tower in Fostoria would certainly make for some more interesting game play. Being able to see the trains would be cool, but to create a 3D environment and get everything going would take a great deal of time...if I really want to play with 3D trains, I have MSTS. But that's just my opinion...
I had fun, but not for long - got bored too. But the answer might be in the scenario or structure. Running these few tracks and a handfull of switches isn't very challenging. a bigger territory with more action, setting up meets and so forth, might capture more interest for some of us.
Need to wait and see what more it will offer before I reject it outright.
Having a close friend of the family who worked for the railroad afforded me the opportunity to actually spend a day in a former Pennsy tower. Even though you cannot look out the window and see the train pass, there are a lot of things this program got correct. The first thing I noticed is when the train hits your circuit the light comes on, on the model board and the bell dings, 100% correct for the PRR tower I was in. Next thing I noticed was how the program models the interlocks correctly. A couple of things the interlocks keep you from doing are throwing a switch under a train or trying to setup a signal then throw the switch. For me the demo was pretty neat and does model what it was like to be in the tower. It is a shame we cannot have more of a 3-D environment inside the tower and the ability to see the trains moving outside of the tower, but who knows maybe a update or something for version 2?
I think this one has a lot of potential, it's just a matter of how the full version is. A standard interlocking with universal crossovers (even on a four track main with close to 100 trains a day) isn't really a good indicator for what could be done with this sim. I've often tried to replicate the operations of a single interlocking tower such as MG on TD3, and no matter what I tried I couldn't make it interesting at all (granted, this was without block phones, levers, or model boards, but the same thing should still hold true). Although MG certainly isn't/wasn't the most exciting place on earth, could you imagine a sim of ZOO Tower in Philadelphia or any Chicago area interlocking tower? I'm sure a larger interlocking (or even an tower controlling several interlockings via a mechanical CTC machine) would hold much more interest.
As for the graphics--let's face it, if we wanted a game with a lot of eye candy we'd be looking at MSTS or one of the other simulators. This game will appeal more to the strategic/operations crowd, and the lack of advanced graphics means that it should be able to run on just about any machine (another huge plus).
One thing that, in my opinion, is imperative for this sim is the ability for users to make custom towers (not just activities, but fully customizable towers). That would go a long way in deciding whether this game would be worth having.
downloaded it earlier, ran it a couple of times. i must say i had fun. i agree with everyone else, it would be nice if you could see the actual train pass by, but i, personally, am considering purchasing the full version when it comes out.
