    MSTS Software

    Good morning,

Like many I was disappointed that MS abandoned the latest release of MSTS. Having said that is it still possible to obtain a copy of MSTS somewhere. Have searched the net, but have not found any solution as such.

    Feedback most welcome.

    Cheers,

MSTS2 is pretty much abandoned. However, there is probably new hope for another sim but only time will tell.

You should be able to get MSTS from Amazon.com

You can often find copies on eBay - there are a couple available there now.

I received MSTS in 2001 when the game came out. I am looking to purchase a replacement set of CDs for the game because my original CDs have a few scratches which makes it hard for my computer to read the CD if I need to reinstall the game. I have come up with a way to get around the issue of my computer having a difficult time reading the files by manually copying the folders I need off of the CD. I was wondering which of the listings currently available for the game include the MSTS 1.1 patch and are in the $10 range? I take it that in order to have a better chance that the software I purchase has the patch included I should get a version of MSTS the came out after 2001. Thank you for you assistance.

              Sincerely,
              Walter

                Safety copies won't work, either.

As a matter of course, I will often make a safety (or back-up) copy of a program installation disc, being sure to include hidden files and folders.

I did just that with the two MSTS installation discs. Then, I tried loading MSTS from the safety copies (to test them) and I got an error while loading disc 2 stating that "Installation could not verify the disc." I'm presuming this means that the installer looks for something on disc 2 that didn't (or couldn't) copy over from the original. Whatever it is looking for is beyond my comprehension.

It annoys me to no end that we are obliged to purchase program discs all over again if our originals get damaged over time. My first purchase of MSTS was $20 for a brand new one. That was six years ago and it included the book. Now, Amazon wants $114 for the same old program and no book? Are they insane?

This is a complaint that will likely fall upon deaf ears, but I grow very weary of being screwed by corporate greed and built-in obsolescence.

The difficulty was not provided by MicroSoft or Amazon. Atari took over USA distribution in 2005. The going price was always $9.95. This continued until very recently, but it appears that the Atari distribution has gone belly-up...

The European distributor also quit a couple of months ago.

EDIT: this might be the best you can do now.

                  regards,

Disc 2 of MSTS has always had copy protection so that the original disc 2 was required for a full install

I want the one for Linux, Unix, Windows 98 / NT.
I tried to get mine to work on Linux to no avail.

If you have a video rental store nearby, they have machines that will remove most surface scratches.
I've had to use this option for my kids video games from time to time.

G'Day, the UKTS CD sales have the MSTS discs at a quite reasonable price and you get a free months premium access. Just open a free membership log in to the file library and on the left hand side you will see "CD ORDERING" log in to that and select and pay and you are on your way. Their postage is quite quick too.
                          Regards
                          Barrie

EDIT:- sorry I was there last night and it would seem they have run out too.

                            Hello there Derek,
I might just take you up on that, because you are much closer to me. I am actually a former Melburnian as well. I will be in touch soon. A friend of mine Peter Harmer also
                            recommended you to me.
