New From Stream Lines - CP GE ES44AC Trainset

    Hi All,

It's been a while, I know, but were getting things back on track again.

For starters, we have a nice GE ES44AC trainset package available. Enjoy!

Nice looking set of engines. Just started a run over Shuswap with them.

Are you using one of the consists provided? I tried explore mode on Rodgers Pass with the loaded coal consist and it brought my system down to the low teens. I recently upgraded to a i7 930 and have it OC'd enough that its been able to handle West Colton and Feather River with all sliders maxed for most activities. Just wondering if anybody else is seeing the same.

Well, the fact that the coal cars are in the neighborhood of 10,000 polygons might have something to do with it. I was getting 8FPS with the enclosed consists, but switched off to light engines and got back to ~60.

              These locomotives look rather nice.

I like the sound set very much. It is different from other SLI sound sets. I find it to be clear and well balanced for volume of the various wav files involved.

IMHO, I do think the horn sound "drops off" too quickly at the end, lacking the lingering echo after the horn is released. An echo seems to give the horn sound more depth. I offer this input only because I hear these horns many times a day.

The engine sound transitions are terrific.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the sounds, although they sound a little weird when you get up above N6. Not real smooth; but not a biggy.Great horn; you can get some nice shorts.

I know what you mean, I wanted to do a little more work on them before release.. Patch anyone? As for horn echo, I never got around to making it work like it does in my P32 pack. We'll see what I can do about that.

I am a bit confused, are these your sounds in the SLI package?

Just so everybody knows, the loaded cars seem a little heavy. Each weighs about 158 tons loaded which is far too heavy. I'm not sure what CP loads them to though.

My understanding is that the Elk Valley Coal mines load the coal to about 125 to 130 tons gross weight. Since the aluminum coal gondolas are larger and lighter than the old style steel ones, they can pack a bigger payload. But I do believe that 130t gross is the limit.

IMHO, I prefer to see the MSTS models a bit lighter when loaded so the dynamic brakes on the power units aren't overburdened when coming down a mountain grade. A prototypical consist has 3 locos and around 112 wagons. One loco in the lead, one in the middle and one at the rear. I run a prototypical consist of 3 locos and 111 wagons, plus "fred." Simple math shows that 30t overweight per wagon, times 111 wagons, is a lot of extra weight. 3330 tons is the same as having an extra 25 wagons (properly loaded to 130t) in the consist. If the wagon models are too heavy it is necessary (in a prototypical model consist) to have the dynamic brakes on full and still have to dump some air in order to avoid a runaway on a downhill mountain grade such as Rogers Pass (west side, after leaving the tunnel). Although I am not skilled in wag file editing, I'd like to see the wagons somewhat lighter. Is there a simple way to do this?

As a footnote, my Conbuilder indicates the weight of the Streamlines coal cars to be 141t. That only makes a difference of 1110 tons for the entire consist. Perhaps a tad heavy. Not a big deal though.
