Not really too impressed with this one. Definitely feel like the 3DTS models have a better appeal to them.

Not only that but, Amtrak doesn't use the Boxcar/Mail car anymore, either.

Not anymore no, but apparently in 2003, the Mail Boxcars where seen on said train, well. According to SLI.

I don't know, I am starting to think there is a lack of research taking place..

The boxes were used on Amtrak trains til 2008, I have many photos of them on the rear of the CZ in Sacramento. The scheme on the boxes are incorrect, as is the nose and details on the P42s.

            Here's a photo I took when I was 16. LOL!

Well, I suppose I should have done my research. I would have known that the express boxcars didn't appear on the Empire Builder. I also would have known that the boxcar wasn't even painted correctly. Pay no attention to the links supplied with this post

Only difference I see in the boxcar really, is that you used a High Cube boxcar, instead of a standard cube 60' express boxcar as you pictured above, however, limitation does happen at times. However, why not go the extra step and create a specific boxcar that best fits instead of a "placement" after all, the Amtrak stuff is new shapes as well.

I am hoping the sounds and cabviews are a hit as well, Good quality of both, are very well needed.

The image on the products page may not give the right perspective, but the express box we did is a standard height car.

The links you posted appear to be of a reefer type boxcar, not the standard freight type boxcar supplied in the package.

Correct, I scrolled through many pictures just now, and they are about the same. Just threw me off, didn't realize a standard boxcar was as tall as the windows.

I've been staring at pictures of #58 trying to find a similar perspective to the promo shots. What I see wrong that might be making this model look "odd":

                          1. Side windows appear to be a bit small. looking at photos shows less space between the top of the side windows at the edge / begining of the roof radius and the side body line.
The rain gutter is also missing which maybe contribute to the windows looking too small.

                          2. The very obvious rear view mirros are not present.

                          3. The nose seems to project further forward than it should. It could also be the access door is too small and as a result makes the area look larger than it is. Could be perspective issues with the screenshot. Anyone want to post an orthagonal projection from Shapeviewer?

I think I will be getting this set, and im not complaning that it's not the "Perfect consists.” I wouldn’t be getting this because it’s supposed to be the Empire Builder. I wouldn’t even use the included consist. I would just use the cars and locos in my own consists (every train in Amtrak’s fleet). The only thing I have to complain about is that the cars aren’t in phase IVb. If some one made a repaint I would be fine with it.

I still have a few lil things to complete on these but I'm having issues with the lounge car though....

But I might give these ago again and complete them. But I'm probably not going to buy this set. It looks awesome but my investment is in railworks 2 as of right now and they should be releasing there version of P42DCs today hopefully.
