A call to the Indian Railways Group

I am interested in the Indian Railways through the issue of National Geographic Magazine, and the National Geographic video "The Great Indian Railways" This was one of the first train tapes I got from my parents when I was growing up so it brings back memories for me everytime I watch the now old and battered VHS tape. The parts of the program I found to be the most interesting over the years has always been the segments about the steam locomotives. So my question is this? Is there any plans to build any of the various steam locomotives that operated in India till 1995 when steam was rapidly phased out? I would like to see a wide cross section of the some 6,500 steam locomotives that where in service in India.

Steam is totally out of India except for some heritage runs. No plans to go back in that direction AFAIK but there are more knowledgeable people here.http://forum.irfca.org/. Some good photos on the same site http://www.irfca.org/gallery/Steam/. This is the parent site with a lot of info about India.

Ah, for MSTS we have a few things. My own route of Mumbai 2011 has a NG section where heritage steam runs are possible. In fact I have created such an activity for the old version. The loco is MLR repainted. For BG there were attempts by Vikram, I have tried to adapt these. Maybe will use it some day. You can get a peep view here, the eng file is not updated though, only shape is resized.

Niitin, Thanks for the peep at the resized locomotive. I will see if I can catch the numbers of some of the steam locomotives mentioned in the program above and provide the engine numbers and the wheel arrangments if that would be of any help maybe? It is a shame that no one has really come forth and modeled more steam locomotives for India. Steam survived in India well into the 1990's which is incredible to say the least. Then when you consider the many different gauges in use it really makes for some very interesting steam locomotive operations.

Even though I have no interest in Indian equipment and routes, I can tell you this much about their steamers.. They were built by the British or off British designs since India used to be a British colony.. It's the same with African steamers.. So you might want to start over at UKTrainsim.com and see if they have any Indian steam power. You really don't have to worry about the wide variety of gauges since msts really only has standard, NG, and UK narrow gauge..
Don't tell me the sky's the limit, when there's footsteps on the moon..

Josh, I already knew that. I have been interested in steam around the world for more years than I care to talk about. I prefer steam any day to both electrics and diesels.
