    Windows 11 install issues

OK, I've installed MSTS for the 10th or 11th time....nothing works. I have tried just about every available hint, link and piece of advice on the internet and nothing works whatsoever. Had it working at one point but that didn't last very long. I see there are some that have it on Windows 11 and it works just great - me, I'm not one of those.

It does install, but when I click to run it, I get a blank screen as if it never started at all. Trying to do something else, the PC tells me that MSTS is running. IS this in fact a graphics card issue? The PC is using an Intel HD graphics 530 that's built in. I've looked at the various Nvidia cards available but not sure which one I need - if that in fact is the case.

All the compatibility settings, admin settings are all where they're supposed to be. I know I'm beating a dead horse on this subject, but I could sure use a little help with this one. Been fighting it for 2 months now and getting tired of it all.

Any help or suggestions offered are greatly appreciated!

    Thanks
    Dave

Everything I've read in the forums points to yes...it is the built in graphics card, MSTS will install but not run. As for which Nvidia card for MSTS --- have no idea. I have only run OR for the past 8 or so years. Good Luck.

Thanks, that kind of validates my thoughts. Anyone's thought on an Nvidia Gforce 730 for this system? As a side note, I've installed a pair of 1 Tb drives in it as well.

        Hi notch8,
I don't have Windows 11 and I haven't used the GeForce 730 but I'm pretty certain that it's an entry level card and might not give the performance required. The last two digits indicate the level of the card; for quite a number of years now, I've been running a 750ti under Win 7 and Win 10 and have had absolutely no problems with it under MSTS or Open Rails.

Just as a point, MSTS doesn't need any 'Compatibility' settings other than "Run this program as an administrator". Also, make sure the startup.mpg file is either deleted or renamed.

I know you said you've followed all the hints and tips, but make sure you've applied the v1.4 update, from Steam4Me, otherwise MSTS will be looking for a CD which it won't be able to find, even if it's present in the drive!!

        Cheers,
        Ged

Thanks Ged! I guess I'll order a 750ti on Monday. I have been following the Steam4Me guidelines and have all the necessary updates and other things stored to file, as I seem to be repetitively using them. The disc set I have is already v1.4 compliant.

          Thanks again!

The X50 series of the Nvidia cards aren't really known as gaming cards.
You'll want an X60 or 70 with at least 4 gb of RAM.

NO it isn't. mate!! None of the MSTS CD sets contained the v1.4 update. I am basing this on everything I have read, plus, I have the original Microsoft v1.2 set and those from XPLOSIV and UbiSoft

              Cheers,

Interesting, when install is finished, SD402 and Class50 are already there. When I go to do the v1.4 update, it tells me it's already installed. My set is Ubisoft 2002. I did note that the "read me" on disc 1 says it is indeed v1.2.

Did you delete the old install first?

Sure did. Wiped any and all references to MSTS off the system prior to any new install. Just got done reinstalling (again), added all the suggested updates and things from the Steam4Me page...still nothing. The game wants to start, goes to a quick black screen, then reverts back to the normal desktop screen. PC says the game is running, but nothing else to show for it. Just restarted again, as that's the only way to shut the game off effectively. Task manager won't do it.

So, I suppose I'll wait and see what a new graphics card will do. Time will tell. Funny thing is, I'm also running Flightsim 2004 (on a different drive) and it works just fine. All in the programming language I guess.

Then you must have got a AMD graphics card, I hade a AMD graphics card and tried to ran it and got the same result. So if you would have a Nvidia graphics card then the would work properly.

Here is a video that might help.
