    PeskyDingo,

    Here is the *.eng file (uploaded here as *.txt; just copy out the relevant lights section) that I was using with the previous model for the lights setup that I outlined above (post #121). I tested these lights with your new model (the file provided by Rudi on April 2) and they work fine.

    Peace,

    Sam

    Also, CurlSnout, If you could post the ENG you have for the lights section, I'd appreciate it

    Haha, I didn't even notice windows being on the wrong side in the latest version, It's fixed now. We have two Engs for this train, I must've put the old Dash 9 one in the latest version by mistake. I'll post the corrections soon. I'm also swapping out the side views for the Cabview.

    Hi Rudi,
    I think the lights section needs correcting - the comment against some of the Light entries doesn't match how they are configured.
    1. Are the left and right front side lights to be illuminated at all times, or only when the Headlight switch (H) is set to Dim and/or Full?
    2. Are the left and right rear red lights to be illuminated at all times or only when the Headlight switch is set to Dim and/or Full?
    3. Is the front upper central light to be illumimated only when the Headlight switch is set to Dim and/or Full?
    4. Is the 'Cone of Light' only to be illuminated if the headlight switch is set to Full?

    The position of all the lights requires adjustment.

    Cheers,
    Ged

    Hi Sam,
    My apologies - I missed your post!
    I can't make out why a Dash9 .eng file should have been used when the previous m290 .eng file seemed to be OK - I'm sure Rudi will come back with a correction but in the meantime, I'll see if I can use the previous m290 .eng file. I appreciate that it might require some modifications, especially regarding the 'Inside' view.

    Cheers,
    Ged

    Hello Ged,

    I am aware that the file provided on April 2 comes with transparent windows - I posted a screen capture of it above (post #142), comparing it to the earlier model.

    It looks like the *.eng file that comes with the newest model IS the default Dash 9 eng file, modified somewhat to run Rudi's M290. Compare the two and you will see that they are almost identical - except for where names have been changed in order to call up the proper shape files. This renders the lights in the new M290 very strange indeed.

    ?

    Hi Sam,
    The vehicle I downloaded on 2 April has transparent windows - file CSD_M290_Slovenska_Strela14.s dated 26 March 2024.
    This also shows the interior seats, etc.

    Strangely, the Description in the .eng file of this version contains details for the Dash 9 diesel loco !!

    Cheers,
    Ged

    Rudi,

    Is there a version of your previous model that has transparent windows? Just curious.

    Hi Rudi,
    I see that you've posted on elvastower.com that you're still having problems with the in-cab sounds.

    Using the .zip file you made available on 2 April, I have just re-installed the loco and have no problems with the cab sounds.
    If you are using MSTS, make sure that the 'Quantity of Sounds' setting is 'High'. This is accessed by the 'Options' button, then the 'SOUND' tab
    If you're using Open Rails, make sure that 'Sound detail level' is set to 5; accessed by the 'Options' button, followed by the 'Audio' tab.

    I made one minor change to the .eng file - remove line 404 [ DoesHornTriggerBell ( 1 ) ] or change the value from ( 1 ) to ( 0 )
    and the following two changes to the M290strelacab.sms file :

    1. Change the 'Horn' stream (lines 270 - 286) from :
    Stream (
    Priority ( 6 )
    Volume( 1.0 )
    Triggers ( 1
    Discrete_Trigger ( 8 PlayOneShot ( 1 File ( "Strela horn with echo.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( SequentialSelection ) ) )

    )
    FrequencyCurve(
    SpeedControlled
    CurvePoints ( 2
    0.0 22050
    50.0 22050
    )
    Granularity ( 100 )
    )
    )
    TO
    Stream (
    Priority ( 6 )
    Volume( 1.0 )
    Triggers ( 2
    Discrete_Trigger ( 8 StartLoop ( 1 File ( "Strela horn with echo.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( SequentialSelection ) ) )
    Discrete_Trigger ( 9 ReleaseLoopReleaseWithJump () )
    )
    )
    Note that removing the FrequencyCurve section results in the in-cab horn sound matching the external horn sound.

    2. Remove the FrequencyCurve section from the 'Bell' stream (Strela horn very good.wav) - lines 292 - 299.

    Cheers,
    Ged

    Sam, this is great. So, me and Dingo here have been working on this for several months. We got the model from Sketchup and it turned out we had to rework everything and probably should have started from scratch. As we where building I noticed a miscount on the windows. Well it looks like we made an error. I will point it out or he will see it on here when he logs in.. For the record no and we need to fix it lol....not bad attention to detail even from a non Czech.

    Rudi,

    In your new model you have put the toilets/restrooms on the wrong side. The location of the toilets can easily be identified by the windows: Look at the windows of the passenger compartment from the outside and you will see that on each side one of the windows is smaller (more narrow) than the others. These are the restroom windows. Standing inside the railcar facing either direction ('P' or 'Z'), the restrooms are located all the way down on the RIGHT. In your new model, you have put the restrooms on the LEFT - directly below the exhaust stacks. Another way to think of it: On each end of the railcar the narrow window should be on the side opposite the exhaust stack.

    Compare the 'real' thing:

    To your new model:

    The toilets/windows were located properly on your previous model:

    Was this intentional? Anyway, I thought I would mention it and ask, as you seem to be striving for fidelity to the prototype.

    Peace,

    Sam

    Love all your suggestions but this one...lol They would probably charge me with defacing a national landmark which the Strela is. Love the lights!

    Ged,
    You know me well. This was the exact reason why there are a lot of files with the horn. I wanted to have options. Once I lowered the quality to 8,000 thought my problems were over. I don't have static problems but that horn and some of those sounds just don't sound right in the cab...while the outside and passenger view are amazing.

    Hey Sam,
    Yah I know dumping them would fix it but when it took a month to assemble them from not that many videos I am reluctant to give them up. I am not sure what person I could ask to resolve this.

    That's an interesting observation - is it possible that the frequency of the sound(s) in the M290 pack is/are outside a preferred range?

    An experiment that one could attempt: Make bakup copies of the M290 horn sounds. Then copy the horn sounds from the 'motor sounds' pack into Rudi's sounds directory and rename them so that Rudi's train calls them up.

    Will they play, and how will they sound?

    Sam
    Hey Sam,
    We downgraded the sound pack when we first started because it was way too much and it would not play anything. I downgraded them twice stopping at the 8,000 range. This is my huge frustration as it took a very long time to put together my soundpack. I am willing to do most anything to resolve this. Is there something in there that is speeding up the horn sound making it play faster? We put in a song and that song was being played at least twice the speed it should be played at.
