Train.exe couldn't be opened, but MSTS is up to date?

My copy of MSTS is up to date. I got it a long time ago, but it did come updated (with the SD40-2 and Class 50, etc) but when I try to install msts bin using the installer, when I select the destination folder, it says train.exe couldn't be opened. (NEVER installed bin before) Even though my copy of MSTS was up to date, I downloaded the 1.4 update anyway, but it still didn't work. It is installed in the correct directory though and train.exe hasn't been renamed.
I run windows 8.1. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

You did install MSTS following the procedure outlined in the Steam4Me tutorial? It sounds as if you did not and are having issues with the UAC.

On my older computer with Win 7 I did, but MSTS wouldn't install on my new computer, so I just copied everything onto my new computer. I've also tried installing bin with UAC off (and on).
That may be the problem, but I can't install MSTS because of the whole Disk 2 issue. Everything works the same, but I use Open Rails because the framerate is worse with msts on my new computer.

          Hi,
The "Disk 2" issue can be solved by copying both CDs into one temporary folder, allowing one file overwrite, then running setup.exe from that folder. Don't forget to add the 1.4 update from Steam4Me to avoid the need for a CD to be in the drive and to prepare for the Bin patch.

If you just copied the MSTS folder from the old PC to the new one, the Registry entries will be missing from the latter!

          Cheers,
          Ged

EDIT : Neil - On some systems, mine included, the MSTS installation slows down dramatically at, I think, 29%, which coincides with the change-over from disk 1 to disk 2. The system seems to have problems reading the second CD, but I've not found a cause or solution.

MSTS creates a registry entry. Needs to be installed.

There is another current forum post regarding the failure of disk #2 to install.
