    AI Locomotive Question

Just out of curiosity, what are the benefits of having AI locomotives for helpers and AI trains? Does it have to do with computer performance?

Well, there are a number of related advantages:

AI-Only versions can have exclusive lighting arrangements, since there is a "Service" condition parameter.

You can programme AI-only engines and consists to have a maximum speed less than maximum track speed (example: an unfiited UK goods train running at 25 mph on a route with maximum track speed being 80-105 mph).

Just only a few of creating separate AI versions of player-driveable locos.

AI locos make less demands on the computer because they have a simplified eng file with no engine controller statements,no cabview, fewer lights (remember the old too many lights bug?) and a simplified sound file. All my consists (with the advent of BIN) now consist of a driveable loco and AI helpers so every consist is driveable making for varied activities. The AI sms file is adjusted so helper locos on the player train are not heard in the player loco cab but all AI (and driveable) locos on passing trains are.All AI trains sound their horn or bell when passing the player train.

Thanks. I was just checking to see if in fact it does tax the computer more.
