    AEM-7 AI Sounds...I give up!

I know I posted something like this before but I tried everything I could think of. The AEM-7s and Amfleets will not sound when they are AI on the NECv4 route. I thought of everything I could and looked all over the forum, and I got nothing. If anyone out there got them working, please tell me how because I give up.

I guess no one got them working. I don't blame all of you.

They need an AI section (SL0) in their sms file.

There is obviously something wrong with your sms file;do you use context to check them? Have you tried using the default acela sounds to see if they will work instead of whatever you are using now?
There are some excellent electric loco sounds on The Train.de,why not download one of them and modify with a different horn sound etc?
Have you read Ralf Hagen's tutorial on the sms file on the Steam4Me site?

He obviously has something installed wrong???????

He may not have the latest SMS (there is a patch to the NEC pack for sounds) or ????

ragtimer: I tried switching to the default acela sounds and some electric loco sounds from The Train.de and no luck. I read the tutorial and all seems right.

chucksc: If you mean necpac14.zip, I already tried that.

I'm at work and not home - but you maybe right about the SL0 not being there....
I had some problems with numbers of lights and sounds in our engines (it appears we had way too many when A/I and driveable were in the same files) and had to "correct" SMS and light sections of ENG files to strip out the A/I ones.... this was done because of problems reported by activity makers and is related to there being a "hard stop" in the numbers of active lights and sounds in the game... The problem was that the game engine used "software hooks" for ANY lights or sounds defined in the engine and sms files even though they were not used... this would be SL0 files being counted on driveable engines and more critically SL3 sounds counted in A/I engines.... ALL lights were counted no matter what...

I was going to release the A/I sounds and lights seperately.....
It's been a while since I looked at those....

When BIN came out it alleviated the need (though not entirely in all cases) for this strategy to reduce the number of active lights and sounds - so i never got around to releasing the A/I files...

                anyone else have this problem?

As none of the sounds work for you then you are obviously setting up your sms or eng files incorrectly.Have you set up the "activation" statements correctly? All SL0 sections have to have ExternalCam activated otherwise you will not hear the sounds and has to have CabCam activated on the SL0 section of driveable locos or you will not hear them in your cab.Do you have any locos on which the AI sounds work? If so use their sms file as a basis for the ones which are not working.

The activation statements are set up correctly. I did use the default hhp sounds as a basis and it did work. However, can someone still look at these sms files and see if one of you find something wrong with them?

I checked your sms file and it has a brackets problem. That is why it does not work properly. You are not using context, otherwise you would have discovered the problem for yourself without wasting everyone else's time and effort.I have posted on these forums on many occasions the necessity of using context for MSTS files.Does no one bother reading? If you PM me with your email address,I will send you sms files that work but you will have to download the DB 185 sounds from The Train.de.
