On a side note, look at this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTQjwsWt2-Q
Besides it being rather funny (at least for those who know what "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" is), notice that the creator of the video (who happens to be Jonatan on this website) is using Matt Florack's freight car sounds and the gondolas in this video aren't making any sound. It's not just me who's having this issue.

It still doesn't work. Something's obviously wrong here. The sounds work just fine for the other .sms files; why won't it work for this one?

That is strange, your wag file had one to many closing brackets after the lights. This was common on a lot of older cars and prevented the sound from working. I first experienced this on the NALW Superliners that never had sound.

The closing brackets are what I would have changed as well.
The closing bracket issue is easy enough to test by inserting or moving the Name() to just above the Sound().
However, there are still Lights(2 when there is only one Light( .

I can't find a "Name ( ____ )" in the .wag file that you sent me. Maybe a few pictures so I could understand it better?

If a .wag file does not have a Name() inside it, you can edit the .wag file with Wordpad and put one in.
Call it anything you want e.g. Name("Sound test wagon")

Just to let you know, the .sms file is working now. I didn't even do anything. Thanks for your help, everyone.

I'm having this problem with an entire set of Bethgons now. They alias to the same .sms file as the other coal hopper that I was having trouble with, genfreightwag1. I'll upload the file here so that you can see if there's anything wrong with it.

To quote user highball 3985 in post #21 of this thread:
"That is strange, your wag file had one to many closing brackets after the lights. This was common on a lot of older cars and prevented the sound from working."

                          I would also change "Lights ( 2 " to "Lights ( 1 ".

Spotting errors like this is something I taught myself do early on, and is part of the fun of MSTS.

It's the same problem as described before. Too many closing brackets. You probably don't have brakes either..

If you get and use Context instead of wordpad you will not have these problems because it highlights errors in wag and eng files. Also, you do not need lights on any wagon (except a caboose),just find one of the free "FREDs" out there and use that as the rear wagon on freight trains.

I went with Jim and Armchair Engo's formula with one car and it seems to have worked. I've done it with the other cars as well and now I have the rumbling ambience of a loaded coal train. It sounds even better with a pair of screaming ES44AC's on front. Thanks for your help, everyone.
