    Pick Up Object Sound Change?

    Seeing certain narrow gauge and old steam routes, it dawned on me there's no 'wood pickup' that Kuju supplied. Figuring it's pretty easy to fool a routes TRK on the line DefaultCoalTowerSMS ( newwoodload.sms ) And adding to the REF entry

    Pickup (
    FileName ( woodpile.s )
    Class ( "Track Objects" )
    PickupType ( _FUEL_COAL_ )
    Description ( "Interactive Wood Loader" )
    )

    The object places fine, but can't hear the WAV's I had set up. I had merely used the cwater.sms swapping out and using my new woodchuck,wav's So I'm unsure if I have to still name it as 'ctower.sms', or fool with the pick up settings in order for it to work? I take it that 'Activated Effects Only' should just be the sound, as theirs no animation with the wood. But do the other parameters like Capacity, Content, Fill Rate and/or Speed have any bearing on the SMS? Basically, I just want to get the tender by the wood pile, hit T and hear the wood getting thrown in and be on my way. I know on Marias Pass one had to be 'bang on' lining up the fuel input with the pump in order to make it work. And that's the other thing, can proximity radius be enlarged with these pick up objects by enlarging it via a W file in Notepad? And/or does a engine have to be set to 'coal' somehow in it's ENG? I'm just testing with the old Shay D right now, even though it's not specifically a 'wood burning' engine.

    Seemed so simple in theory. But as always with MSTS, once put into practice - a whole different ball game.

    Steve,

    I remembered reading something about this in the past, and sure enough I found the thread - check the link below. Tim Muir was working on the same thing with someone, and they were having trouble getting the wood sound they had to work... The last speculation was that maybe the the wood pile needed a hidden animation added to it in case it was defaulting to other sounds without an animation present. At any rate thought you might find the thread interesting to check out and maybe someone else can chime in with more insight?

      Thanks Derek! Tis interesting indeed. Just got into using the sound diagnosis tool myself, though it's as odd as trying to make a Pick Up object sound. My thinking is MSTS is hardcoded to recognize only wtower.sms, ctower.sms, etc. Not that one still couldn't swap out the WAV's in them for wood loads or sand or gravel. But I'd be fearful of the detriment caused to one with a lot of routes on hand. Does TRK directions automatically point to the Global sound folder? If one could plop a specially crafted 'ctower.sms' into their routes sound folder along with wood.wav's - that would be okay. And/or I guess for 'mini routes' if it does indeed have to go to Global?

      A tinkering I shall continue.
