Bell not heard inside until switching to outside view?

    Hi,
I use Anthony's GEVO soundset, and his FDL16 soundset.
The ES44AC/DC sounds I alias to use a digi bell .wav, and in the ES44 engines, I can hear the bell in the cab just fine.
In fact, I adjusted the .sms file making it a bit quieter.

I tried using this horn in one of my DASH9's, aliased to one of the FDL16 .sms files, and I need to switch to an outside view, then back in the cab, in order to hear it. I had to do the same thing to the bell it was originally coded to use.

Why is this, and is there a way to fix it?

    Thanks much,
    Neil

It sounds like there's a Volume line set to (2.9) or something like trying to get a boost in volume. The top level for MSTS I found is (1.0)
Otherwise with something like 2.9 - the first trigger may sound very quiet, or if at all? Going head out and back in the cab, the bell will try to sound at 0.9, which is pretty close to 1.0. So best to make sure all Volume lines in the SMS is (1.0) or less.

      Noted, thanks very much.

I'll check it out tonight, and report back.

EDIT: You were right on the money! I think now, in retrospect, I had thought the bell sound was a bit too silent, so I "upped" the volume number in the .sms file to over a value of "1'. That in turn screwed me on all bells I subsequently tried. I never knew there was a "cap" on the value. Putting it back to "1" got me back to square one - a bell that I can hear, though a bit on the quiet side. Either I'll leave as is, edit the .wav file to bump up the volume, or swap in a new bell.

      Thanks for educating me

Good to hear you got it working again. The 1.0 is actually kinda the 0db standard for pro audio, and I'd say each subsequent reduction is by 2db for pretty well a total of -20db by the time you get to ( 0.1 ). Which is pretty smart of Kuju really. As for 'upping' your bell volume, it can be done in an audio editor. Maybe a 'Normalise' function to bring the WAV to 0db itself. Or with more complicated plugins such as Limiters and Compressors.

Are you sure your problem isn't simply 'Activation' settings? Make sure you Cab.SMS is set to Activate on Cab () only, and Deactivate on Passenger () and External (). Your Eng.sms should Activate on External () and Passenger () and Deactivate on Cab (). Not sure what exactly happens when SMS's conflict with these settings, but I would think sounds would get cancelled out and not heard.
