Cheers to Sir Ged Saunders !!

SMS File Errors have been the major cause of heartaches and laggy gameplays, be it MSTS or Open Rails since years...
I have been correcting many sms and wav file errors of Indian content and the new utility by Sir Ged Saunders has proved
to be a blessing for newbies and enthusiasts alike !!
This new utility called " sms_Checker " is a great way to find out all inconsistencies in sms files which one can save to a text file and then solve them to achieve smooth simulation !!
I have achieved success with many rolling stocks.
I couldn't be more happy and grateful to you, Sir !
Thanks a ton for making this possible.
    Love & Respect !

      Hi Ashraf & Gerry,
You embarrass me, Gentlemen, but I thank you

It surprised me to discover that, over the 3 main MSTS sites, there have been 300 downloads of the utility, over a couple of days!!

A new version will be uploaded at the weekend - not because of a bug (yet!) but because the Open Rails DemoAutoSound .sms files use a non-standard method for addressing their .wav files which results in them all being reported as "not found".

      Cheers,
      Ged

Thanks very much for your utilities sms-checker and MSTS Check. About a month ago I started to clean up my cab and sound files using existing utilities and thought I was making headway. Your utilities found errors with my sms and cvf files that other utilities missed. Thank you for the thoroughness you followed in programming these utilities.

One question for you - does sms-checker do anything different from the sounds portion of MSTS Check? Should both of them be run on an MSTS installation or is just running MSTS Check sufficient?

        Thanks

Figured it out. MSTS Check will highlight missing wav files whereas sms-checker does a more thorough check of the sms file itself, highlighting incorrect stream numbers and missing brackets, as well as missing wav files.

Once again Ged, thanks for your utilities.

MSTS_check will find missing sms files.
SMS_check only checks the sms files that are there.

                Hi All,
A new version of sms_Checker is now available from the library - sms_Checker_v2.zip

There are a couple of extra checks but the main change is that the user may optionally choose to automatically modify certain .wav file paths and correct 'Streams' and 'Triggers' entries where they don't match the actual number of Stream and trigger lines, respectively. Full details are in the v2.0 readme.

If the user doesn't select the 'Overwrite' option, the program works in a similar way to the previous version. It is recommended that a non-overwrite run is initially selected so that the number of errors can be seen. It also gives the opportunity to manually/visually check that the reported errors are genuine and, maybe, to correct them.

                Cheers,
                Ged

                    Hi niknak,
                    Thank you
However, nothing, especially computer programs, can ever be completely bug-free (look at Sony's Cyberpunk 2077!!), so if anything doesn't seem to working correctly, please get in touch. The same goes if you have any suggestions for improvements (in fact, I have one of my own which might see daylight in the not too distant future...)

                    Cheers,
                    Ged

                          Hi,
Thanks, Peter & Jon Sorry it's a bit late, chaps

v2.1 of sms_Checker will shortly be available from the file library.

It contains fixes for two bugs which Robert Lewis found - thanks, mate!
                          1. The global SOUND folder is now checked for .wav files being reported as missing from a route's SOUND folder.
                          2. The program will now recognise two trigger entries on one line. The trigger types don't need to be the same.

If you think something is not working properly, please let me know!

                          Cheers,
                          Ged

                              sms_Checker

                              Hi All,
sms_Checker v2.4 is now available from the file library (sms_checker_v2_4.zip).

'Comment' lines are now recognised and treated the same way as 'Skip' lines, ie any enclosed parameters are ignored.

NOTE : v2.2 was the last general release - v2.3 was never publicly released.

                              Cheers,
                              Ged
