Lacking documentation from KUJU, and you didn't say how big the music file was, I'll take my best guess.

Below is a copy of the soundcfg.dat file, which is in the GLOBAL folder of Train Simulator. If I read it correctly, the SL5 (Scalability 5) category is allocated 30meg of memory. If your COMBINED sound files exceed this number, you probably have a problem. By COMBINED, I mean that you should add up all the sounds that MSTS loads into memory (crossing bells, horns, bird sounds, etc.) and the music.

If your music is recorded at 11025hz, 16 bit STEREO, you could try converting the music file to MONO, which should cut the file size in half. Or, you can do what I did, which is to buy a couple of cheap computer speakers, place them next to your existing speakers, plug in a portable CD player, and you've got as much music as you want outboard the sim, no conflicts or crashes. Takes the load off your computer. Whatever you do, don't try Windows Media Player at the same time the sim is running, or you will have a screen show like you've never seen before.

Maybe someone else can tell us how to adjust the memory allocation.

    Hi Kelley,

I have the feeling the file is too large. Why not try just two songs first? If that works then I think that's the problem.

    Hi Guys,

Made a long album of several songs and made it the right MHZ and stuff, but it crashes the sim each time!! A single song will work fine, but it still won't play mutiple songs even though it is one file. So the major question is...DOES SIZE MATTER????.........I would gladly send the file I made as a test to someone to see if you could get it to work. ( I used multiquence to make it.)

    Thanks guys!!
