    Sound Management System Template?

    Hi guys,

I am in the process of designing an electric trainset for use in Train Simulator. I would like to build a .SMS file from scratch, because I am basing the sounds on a train that sounds not at all like the trains that come with Train Simulator.

The train would use sounds based on the engine current, speed, braking power, and all of these sounds would also be audible from the passenger view. I've had a quick look at the .SMS files that come with Train Simulator but I can't seem to find anything on braking power or engine current, and some of the sounds would vary in volume and not pitch.

If anyone could possibly point me towards a template .SMS file, or help me out by writing one, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks!
    Alex

    Oh yeah,

Is it also possible to have a sound file play when the brakes are first applied, and another when they are released?

It seems like the engine current and braking power can be combined into 'effort' (as shown on the cab view of an Acela). Would there be a sound variable for this?

    Thanks,
    Alex

I don't think there is a 'template' as such, so just use any existing .sms file that has roughtly the right set-up and add/delete/modify as needed. You say you are doing an electric trainset, so I would suggest you choose an existing electric .sms because the Disrcete_Trigger numbers (and Variable1, Variable2 and Variable3) can have different functions for the different trainset types of steam, desiel, electric. I've never investigated electric .sms's so can't be sure, but there tend only to be variables for speed, wheel rotation, trottle %, and rate of firing (steam loco only!), not for brake power, etc. There are definately only a limited set of variables. Others may be able to be more precise.
