    MIssing File Golsdorf 380

When I used CB1.5 to check a new loco, I got the following error message: "The sound file a380_power_cruise8.wav specified by the file 380Cab.sms does not exist in the folder "

CB is correct, the file doesn't exist (I searched for a forum topic on this and got no results at all) - it doesn't seem to affect the steam loco sound, but why would 380cab.sms call for a file that doesn't exist - other than sloppy programming? There is a series of "a380_power_cruise" files number 0 through 7. But no 8 in the series.

In the 380 sound file folder there is also a series of files "x_a380_power_cruisen.wav" Numbered 0 thorugh 8 - there is an 8 here - but the files do not appear to be anything like their cousins without the "x" prefix. File size, for one thingk is completely different.

Natch, I have checked the original 380 sound directory files, all the files that pertain in the 380 overall folder and both of my TS installations (on different machines) indicate the same lack of this file.

I know that sloppy programming work is not unusual in TS - or other apps for that matter. What I find curious is the lack of mention of this anywhere I can find on this forum, also the lack of a fix in the Library - which I also searched thoroughly.

    Any ideas?

    RE: MIssing File Golsdorf 380

    Hi,

I have repaired nearly all the errors, ConBuilder reported. But I never posted a post about it. May be I had to do it, but I didn't.

In this case I simply copied the x_..8 to a temp folder, renamed it to the name of the missing file and moved it to the sound folder.
x_ sound files are external sounds, without x they are the internal (cab) sound files.

Thank you, Dick. You are saying that despite the difference in file SIZE - the x_ series sound files are the same as those without "x_" in their name? I thought that might be the case, but was reluctant to do this - sound files are a bit different, though, come to think of it: A file half the size might be 1/2 the duration, but contain the same basic audio material, it would (I guess) repeat itself on a 2X basis to achieve the same task (???).

TS is very much a learning process - it's a poor day I don't learn something new about it. Again, thank you for the help.

There is a significant difference between the files with x_ and the ones without. With files are in mono, without files are in stereo. If you simply rename a without to a with (if you still follow me!) then it will be played back at half the speed in the sim.

I've not been aware of this issue because I use Murray Curtis's extra .wav files which null this problem. Try here:-
