Text from this post was changed because what I typed was VERY stupid, and was type during some rage that I had when I was only 13. I was mad because Windows 7 froze while I was making a complicated and sorta nice route, so I lost everything.

The route was probably the best msts route ever created that only contained track, grass, and elevations.
There are Many routes, that have all three, and more.
As for your issue, well, I don't really know, as I have windows Vista. Maybe someone else has a clue.

I meant BASIC. And you should've seen it. I'm not saying it's the best' im saying all it had was track and mountains., and it probably looked better than any other route with just those 2 things.

It may not have been Windows 7. The RE will do this from time to time to time especially if you have been working a long time in one setting. Your post indicated that you had been working about 5 hours. If you worked 5 hours without saving what happened is very likely.
The three most important rules of the RE are:
1. Save often. Very often. Don't wait until you are finishing a long session to save. If you are laying track and roads save after every 3 or 4 pieces. Otherwise save every 3 to 5 min.
2. Back-up often. If the worst happens you still have a back-up.
3. Re-boot your computer every so often.
It can be very frustrating at times but don't give up.

One day, Satan challenged Jesus to a contest: Who could do the most with a computer in one day. So, starting at 9 AM, they began, spreadsheets, databases, programming, even who could get high score on Solitaire, every conceivable thing you can do with a computer, including some very nice MSTS routes.
Then, 15 minutes before 5 PM, quitting time, lighting flashed across the sky, then thunder, than the sound of a transforming being struck! The power went out, and there was nothing but dark and silence. Satan, realizing what happened, started to curse and scream uncontrollably... Five minutes before 5 PM, the power came back on, both contestants logged back in, Satan screaming and shaking his fist at Mother Nature.
At five, the Almighty Judge checked and found that Jesus had successfully met every single challenge, including a wonderful route that contained every inch of track of the entire BNSF system.
Satan's screen was blank.
The moral to this story?
Jesus saves...

RELAX!! Nothing gets done Overnight..
Dont blame Windows 7.. I am still using it and have NO known issues..
Every time when you use an Route Editor.. good luck! You are responsible for SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!!! You have to save every work like for every 2-4 minutes at the least, or something is gonna bite you in the arse.. It's common to every simmer..
You also need to shut down all unwanted programs.. like AIM, E mail, Web, and anything thats running on the background. MSTS can really hock up some memory and when one process is running then the other will kick off and crash. So, best advice.. RELAX.. There is no time due or a due date like an librarian waiting for your book.. Just RELAX.. Nothing can be done in 1 day. All those people in the MSTS community created routes, locomotives, and all assorted equipment have took their time and precision to make a perfect model, since they are more relaxed and knowledgeable.
So, dont rush! Just do one thing at a time is best. Then you will be pleased, and lesson learned.

Five Hours Editing Without Saving! A new record!
[QUOTE=StickguyMB;1594997]ive been working on a route for almost 5 hours, 67% (guess) done, or something and it couldn't save so windows 7 had to be a d***** about it and closed msts. ................[QUOTE]
Take it is as a 5 hour lesson on how not to use the route editor.
If you are serious about getting into a wonderful hobby, especially when you learn to make your own scenery objects for your route you need to get this guide;\
And after you order the guide take the downloaded file to a Kinkos or Office Max and have them print out the guide for you and put it in a nice perminent binder.
Then download from the file library Route_Riter and it's seperate help files and learn to use it.
btw, when I was a wet-behind-the-ears snot learning the RE I never was able to edit more than 3 hours before it tanked.Last edited by eric; 02-19-2013, 11:41.............Vince ..............

On the The Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor there is a Tablet. On it is written:
"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
the wretched refuse of your teeming shore, send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
