    "Why doesn't it work?"

I have recently re installed my train sim and I went to download the cnw harvard route again (with auto installer) and I get this error saying - Can't create output file C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\ROUTES\CNW-Harvard\SHAPES\Scrap.shs - also I have re downloaded the route many times and I still get the same problem.

That's not a required file. Ignore the error.

Curious what auto-installer you're using -- I never wrote one, and there isn't a batch file, either...

I can't ignore it. It won't let me continue. And I used an auto installer because for some reason I couldn't gain access to the route. And when I tried to move it to the routes folder I would get an error stating that I cant have the destination be the same as the origin. Sorry I can't get into depth my mother is about to shut off the Internet. I'll finish tomorrow.

Did you install MSTS as instructed by this tutorial?

If you didn't, that is one of the possible reasons you are having problems.

One other thing; Any auto installer or bat file you use MUST be run as ADMINISTRATOR. Right click on installer icon and check the 'Run as Administrator' box.
        Enjoy!

No I have not. But I have read this article before and I don't see how this would change the problem that I'm having. I always run everything as an administrator I have %100 access to everything on my computer. As for the auto installer I don't think it's an administrator issue because ti runs for about 20 seconds then I run into that scrap.shs error.

Well, if you're using an installer, it is not approved by the route builder (me). Don't expect me to support it. Check with whoever created it.

The instructions provided on the official route install page were validated by dozens of others during the beta, so I know they work.

Follow them verbatim, and your problem is solved.

I can't read the readme. When I click on any file from the cnw in my downloads folder I get this error - Windows cannot complete the extraction. The destination file could not be created. - And when I try to move the route to my routes folder I get this error - the same volume can not be used as both the source and destination.- which it's not. I've downloaded many routes and never run into this problem before and I install every route the same way.

                  RTFM.

Seriously.... The readme is on the website. Not in the zip. Follow the carefully written and tested instructions, and not what you've done for other routes....

Don't try opening the zip in your downloads folder. Despite what you think, with UAC enabled, you do not have full rights to the desktop, downloads folder or just about anything that shows up under your user name -- those are virtual locations, not an absolute path.

Move or extract it to a directory created somewhere with an absolute path, e.g. C:\UnzipMe\

First off, you DIDN't follow the tutorial for installing MSTS under Windows 7..Secondly, just because you run everything as an administrator, doesn't mean you have 100 percent access to all files or their manipulation. You have some file permission issues. From the tone of your post, you think you are smarter than the rest of us, including the route's author? The route came in a split zip, not an auto-installer! The best thing to do is to go back to the route's official download site, get the right file, and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! On a side-note, if you havn't done so....you should uninstall the sim, read the tutorial on Win 7 installation, and re-install following the tutorial to the letter!

All right ya know what? I'm just going to fix this myself. I'm not about to sit here and be insulted with out results. No I don't think I'm smarter than you! I have no idea why or how you came to that conclusion. Eolesen, thank you for your help. If we would be able to continue the conversation with out rude interruptions maybe we could get it working. Just some more info. I have the route in my C drive. It was in my downloads folder. But I have never had this problem before. Maybe I downloaded it from a different website, I don't know. Anyways farewell.

@tyman: You THINK you know what you are doing. You obviously Do not because if you had read and installed per the tutorial you woulden't be in the mess you're in now.

If you didn't follow the tutorial, you are in for endless problems, no matter what you do.

You seem to have a problem with reading instructions and Manuals as shown by your recent posting to an old thread in the Bin forum.

Nobodys insulting you, we're trying to drum it into you that if you don't follow instructions you are doomed to failure.

Not the sharpest tack are you? Did you miss the RTFM in Eolesen's post?

Do you know what RTFM means? LOL!.

Legitimate users looking for information on my route shouldn't be distracted by stuff that is end-user induced...

If you're using an unauthorized re-distribution of my route, it's piracy. There's only one approved site for downloading. As I said, I'm not supporting something I didn't cause.
