    Which route to download?

    Hello all,

I am kind of new to MSTS and I would like to know which routes you would recommend to download. There is whole slough of them in the file library, but I have no idea where to start.

So far, I think I will be downloading the Milwaukee Road RMD and the GN Hi-Line. Beyond that I have no idea what to download. I prefer Western US railroading, especially if it hosts an Amtrak route. Of course, a little creative license can be taken here and there...

My own personal fantasy road is called the Eastern Pacific, which basically consists of the Milwaukee Road complete with Pacific Northwest extension and the SP, as it existed before UP got it...EP beat out UP in the bidding war... :P

So, take a 1995 SP, a revamped Milwaukee Road, combine the best elements, and you get Eastern Pacific.

I'm willing to try any route, so suggest away! Thanks!

Try out the freeware Cajon Pass, from Los Angeles to Barstow, California. Definately the best freeware route out there...

        Hello Nathan,
Ask 100 people which routes are the best and you'll probably get 100 different answers. What I would recommend is having a look through the Route Specification Forum. Not only will you be able to see what routes are available, the majority of the specifications also list statics like total route length, number of yards, passing sidings etc.

well, if you really like western railroading, but don't mind spending some money, here are a few suggestions

-Western Pacific's; Feather River Sub. By 3D Trains. www.3dtrains.com
that route requires a good computer. very hardware intensive, highly detailed. $55 It's beautifully done. I'd recommend it.

-Southern Pacific's; Willamette Pass. By Maple Leaf Tracks. www.mapleleaftracks.com this route is also well detailed, but is not as hardware intensive. only $23 and worth every penny

-BNSF's; Steven's Pass. By Streamlines (aka: Scenic Subdivision) My favorite route, absolutely awesome. You can run Amtrak on it. It's not as hardware intensive as the Feather River Sub, but it's a little bit more than Willamette. This may be your best choice, IMO. $39.99 for download, 41.99 for CD and download. www.streamlines.ca

I based these choices off what you said you liked.... IF you decide to pay for a route, you won't regret parting with your money. You can't go wrong with any of these routes.

          Almost forgot.

Southern Pacific's; Donner Pass. About as hardware intensive as Streamline's Scenic Sub. From what I've seen of it, it's awesome. NOTE: It's set in the 1940s/1950s so it comes with very few diesels (Only F7s and FP7s) www.3dtrainstuff.com $44.35
