MONON-2 Ver17 OR, For use with Open Rails Update
Only install this after backing up your MONON-2 ver 17 route.
Do not install this if you do not intend to use Open Rails software to
run the MONON-2 ver 17 route.
Corrects issues that are present in Open Rails:
Shrinks grass to view correctly.
Corrects 1 MONON 2abs signal to view correctly.
Removes top of tree halo/shimmer above tree tops on tree groups by tracks.
Corrects water to not be see through.
Changes:
Makes Era's 1972 and 2000 to have red crossing gates instead of black.
On load screens says OR on them.
Open Rails Team has fixed the issue of cars and trucks going under the road
at crossings, it will in the next stable release of Open Rails.
Note:
With Open Rails to MSTS activities, to run activity made for
MSTS, you must correct the passing paths. Meaning change the
passing paths from take other exit to begin passing path instead
for the activities where trains meet to run well.Last edited by Rick-MONON; 07-15-2017, 19:39.

Since this is such a large route I have created a mini route for MSTS. What I did was create a new folder in the route directory of the mini route, called Monon-2-ORTS, copied the route to the new folder and then installed the update. It seems to be working fine this way. You do need to have the extra 9 gig left on your hard drive though.
BTW Rick thank you for all your hard work on this route, It is probably the most comprehensive freeware route... well actually any route that I've ever seen.Pacific Northwest Railfan

The OR updates will work in msts too, but, OR draws/renders certain objects different then MSTS we have noticed, the changes I made corrects this for OR, so you can use MSTS, but you may want to keep 2 versions, you would need to change the route naming to something not the same for this to work, RR (Route Riter) can do this for you.

After I installed the route as described in my earlier post, in OR both routes were showing the same name so I corrected by these steps
1. Opened RE
2. Clicked on the route menu
3. Clicked properties
4. Added ORTS to the end of the route name.
5. Clicked on edit description
6. Added Train Simulator: ORTS only to the route description
Please see post #309 for the full solution.Pacific Northwest Railfan

I do not believe that will work, once you make activities and try to save them and other things may not go well.
I advise you use RR and have it duplicate the original version and let it do all the changes needed.
Then add the new files to the new version and tell my update to install to the new route folder for the new route name you changed it to.
If not...
You haft to make name changes in the following:
the Monon-2 folder name
in the monon-2 folder change any file named Monon-2
In the monon-2.trk file, change the route ID
in the activities folder in each .act file (activity) change the route ID
anywhere
And, in the Monon-2 folder are 4 files named era swap.......something
right click on each one and choose edit, anywhere it says monon-2, update it to your new name......
By the way, RR (Route Riter) will not change that, it must be done by hand.
Then all will be ok......Last edited by Rick-MONON; 07-16-2017, 21:59.

Well yes I discovered that playing with it this evening. The batch files need slight modification or it swaps the files in the wrong route folder. So I fixed that problem fairly easy.
I haven't tried creating an activity but so far all the ones that you created for the route are working. I am noticing it isn't as easy as I first thought but I have it somewhat running. I will take you advice to heart and will post any corrections.
Since this is my first fiddling under the hood of either MSTS or OR I wasn't aware of the route ID, but it does make sense that will be my next step. Looking at it, it looks like it shouldn't be too difficult, they are all text based. The only question I have is are the commands like Linux were they are all case sensitive, or more like Microsoft Command Line which isn't case sensitive?Pacific Northwest Railfan

I think I have it up and running 100%. With Rick's help and my knowledge of configuring Linux command line servers. Here it is in step by step instructions so you can have both an MSTS and ORTS versions of the Monon-2 Version 17 route on your computer.
Part 1
1. Download the update from https://www.adrive.com/public/Tzh89e..._Ver_17_OR.zip
2. Make sure you have at least 9gbytes of free space on your computer
3. If you haven't done so already, create a mini route for your Monon-2 route.
4. From the Route folder on your mini route, create a new folder. (I called mine Monon-2-ORTS)
5. Copy the current route to the new folder. (This will take awhile on my quad core I-7 it took about 25 minutes)
6. Open your zipped update file and extract the setup file.
7. Run the setup file and have it install to a temp folder. (I installed mine to c:\trains\temp)
8. Go to your where you installed the update, open the MONON-2 Folder, press the [ctrl] [a] keys to select all, and cut and paste into your new Monon-2 ORTS directory. (I called mine Monon-2-ORTS)
9. Delete the temp and empty MONON-2 folders.
Now that is all done you need to do some editing of the Swap Era Batch files. Before you change ANY file please save a copy of it using a .bak extension this way if you screw up you have a fresh copy to revert to.
Part 2
Right click the "Era Swap to MONON 1950.bat" located in your new ORTS folder and click the edit option.
edit the following lines
Code:@echo off CD "../../Trains/TRAINSET/YARDS_ONLY_CARS" xcopy "../../../ROUTES/MONON-2/Docs/MONON-1950/YARDS_ONLY_CARS" /y cd "../../../ROUTES/MONON-2"
Code:@echo off CD "../../Trains/TRAINSET/YARDS_ONLY_CARS" xcopy "../../../ROUTES/Monon-2-ORTS/Docs/MONON-1950/YARDS_ONLY_CARS" /y cd "../../../ROUTES/Monon-2-ORTS"
Code:cd ../ del load.ace cd "Docs/MONON-1950" Copy "load-1947.ace" "../../load.ace"
Code:cd "c:\trains\MR-Monon\ROUTES\Monon-2-ORTS" del load.ace cd "Docs/MONON-1950" Copy "load-1947.ace" "../../load.ace"
Part 3
You must now edit your Monon-2.trk file in the new ORTS Folder as follows:
Code:RouteID ( MONON-2 ) Name ( "MONON-2 The Hoosier Line V 17 " )
Code:RouteID ( MONON-2-ORTS ) Name ( "MONON-2 The Hoosier Line V 17 ORTS" )
Part 4
Lastly you must open all your *.act files in the activities folder of your new ORTS route folder and edit the RouteID to your new folder name:
Code:Tr_Activity ( Serial ( 20 ) Tr_Activity_Header ( RouteID ( MONON-2 ) Name ( "Era 1965 ATSF EB Freight" )
Code:Tr_Activity ( Serial ( 20 ) Tr_Activity_Header ( RouteID ( MONON-2-ORTS ) Name ( "Era 1965 ATSF EB Freight" )

I already installed the route, and i exprienced some problems:
I tried installing the Terrtex files don't fully install. This happened to 2 of 3 files. I try multiple times to reinstall the Installer's and try to install, it doesn't work. If there is going to be a update to the installers, let me know.
