Is it possible to add some of my newer add ons from MSTS directly to open rails, and not through MSTS.
MY mSTS will not load from my desk top and I have a few new routes that I have recently purchased so I was wondering if I can put them directly into Open Rails.
MSTS is only needed for assets and the executable to run ...........and Conbuilder.

Not quite true.
The executable i.e. Train.exe is NOT needed to run ConBuilder, just the MSTS folder structure.
However, you do need Train.exe in each MSTS install and each mini-route install for MSTS Manager to automatically find all installations, but that can be circumvented by just entering the path(s) manually.
Adding files is simply filing them in the right place - it's a windows function, actually, not MSTS. Even when we were only using MSTS.
Open Rails then reads the content, wherever it is. (That's the simple explanation - if you put stuff in a non-standard location, you have to tell open rails where it is.)
For those who don't have, or cannot obtain, MSTS, can this just be an empty file created by, say, NotePad, and called train.exe?

Ged

Yes. Also you can right click in Win Explorer and select New then Text Document then rename to TRAIN.exe.
BUT, if you have a large HD or multiple HDs to search, it is a slow process for MSTS Manager to search as it has to open EVERY folder on the HD and look for TRAIN.exe. I find it much quicker to open Win Explorer, navigate to the root folder of the install, highlight the path, copy, go to MSTS Manager, click edit paths button, click add path button, and paste then repeat as needed.
You never have to run MSTS.
MSTS is only needed for assets and the executable to run Route-riter

Whoops Harold, sorry not accurate. I use RR (version 7.6.26) with my OR profiles on an SSD drive, the only folders in each OR profile are GLOBAL, SOUND, ROUTES, and TRAINS (sub folders CONSISTS, TRAINSET (Common.Cab and Common.Snd)...there is NO MSTS executable.
RouteRiter will present a message indicating the MSTS exe is missing and ask if you want to proceed - Yes will start RR and all functions work as usual.
Cheers, Gerry
It's my railroad and I'll do what I want! Historically accurate attitude of US Railroad Barons.
Forever, ridin' drag in railroad knowledge.
