    ORTS TrackViewer is too complex

Hey all! I just want to know if there's any fast video tutorials explaining the ORTS Timetable Editor. I'm just too lazy to read the stupid manual thingy. The MSTS Activity Editor is too buggy and I've just given up on fixing it.

AFAIK, there aren't. Also, many members here are going to take offence if you call the manual 'stupid,' but I get that it's pretty complex. I don't use timetable mode, but I know that the only way to learn how to use it is by reading the manual.

This has nothing to do with the MSTS activity editor, btw. If you're just trying to edit activity timetables, TSRE can help you with that.

Well, I didn't want to mean that. In future, I shall just use pure formal language here. I'm sorry if anyone finds my post 'offensive'. Anyways, thanks for the info.

It's not too complex, and there's absolutely nothing stupid about the "manual thingy".

The timetable editor is actually intuitive and simple to use once you've played around with it a few times. And you don't need MSTS Activity Editor for it.

However, when learning how to use the timetable, much already depends on your familiarity on how paths are set up in the Route Viewer, and associating trains for paths specifically. And some of your own creativity and organization in how you want to set it all up. You're also going to have to study the relevant sections of the OR manual. There is no getting around that. It takes time to learn this stuff but you have to be willing to put in the time for it.

Asking for help when you're stumped is one thing, but frankly it's disappointing to see someone that won't even make an effort to learn something, say it's "too hard" without even trying, "too complex" without knowing what they're talking about, yet wants someone else to go through the time and effort in explaining it to them - and think that's going to help them.

I've built a large freight timetable for the Monon route consisting of more than 40 trains and 20 different paths. It's up and running smoothly now. It is the third working timetable I've built. Learned it all from know-nothing scratch by reading the "stupid manual thingy" and getting my hands dirty.

The tools are there. Use them. Don't be lazy.

No Tutorials that I know of, however in the OR Documentation folder are quite a few pdfs and among them are two versions of "timetable-editor" -- one translation in German and another in English. To actually read them you will have to emerge from your cocoon of laziness and enter the realm of the active.

To do so, please remember to activate the quantum state selector just to the right of your pineal gland which will start the production of melatonin enabling you to leave your circadian state and join the rest of us two legged critters.

Looking into the future I foresee this question "Where is the stoopid documentation folder"...ahh yes grasshopper...where indeed...look within yourself...whoops, don't do that, that's wrong. Simply download the latest Stable Version 1.4 found on the OR website...it contains the Documentation folder. Within you will find many stupid ( albeit helpful ) items.

I found the docs a bit hard to understand myself so what I did was to search for routes that have timetables available and I installed them. Once you have working examples it's much easier to grasp the concepts.

Actually, I'm a young learner. I did read (not really) the basics. But there are some questions the manual can't answer. If I ask them here, the list won't end. The best example of such a situation would be when loading the .tdb file of a route and then it lists the stations. Now, how would I know if I need to remove the stations I don't want in my activity, or it's just like a reference that the editor will use to list all of the stations and I can choose where to stop later on?

Hi, can you please give me an example of such a route? It'd be very helpful. I was looking for something like this.

The OpenRails.org home page has two free route downloads that include the route, equipment and activities all ready to go.

If you want to remove a station from the timetable, simply right-click the row occupied by the station you want to delete in the timetable file, and select "Delete Row".

Before asking anything else, I strongly, strongly suggest you do some reading in the manual.

Search 'timetable mode' in the file library, there's a bunch of them.
