Thanks. I've learned somewhere down the road somehow that, @ one point just re-numbering or such with Alpha with TGAToolga would just update once saved with Alpha, but then suddenly not allow. Well, with help & .DDS allow+Saving as TGA, It's helped ( including as You said ). Now there's also Re-texturing( Not a good actual Re-Painter ): In this case, bits of textures to make new to equa( Like I did ). The SHPX 48Ft. Tankcars that are Black & White used for Dying Clothes+Their Colors( Said right ? ). Well, for the past several Years now, WAGX & a Few others have gone from Yellow or Brownish Tan to those same colors but are semi-different. To get the same effect without actually repainting the whole model, having those SHPX ones as a "Base" is a good Idea & just Nab bits & Pieces together to get them.

Just a note that this is not correct. There are many formats of bitmap file, including those with alpha channels. The catch is that those such formats are not commonly encountered on Windows, and most bitmap editors won't edit or deal with them correctly.

When you want to edit a texture, TGATools2A is the software you want to open up the .ace file in. You can get TGATools2A from an Ace-It install. Once you open the .ace file in TGATools2A, immediately save it as a .tga file. The .ace format is largely MSTS-only, but the Targa format is more utilitarian and understood by more software. As @pwillard pointed out, TGATools2A will let you edit the color and alpha portions of the texture separately. Or, you can open the .tga file in software like Photoshop and edit it directly.

Be aware that you cannot just "add alpha" to any texture and expect it to work on any model. It is certainly possible to "alpha out" parts on a model, and you can add an alpha channel to the texture to do it, but the shape file may also have be modified so as to utilize the alpha portion of the texture. Since you are intending to just fix the alpha that was already there, and the shape is already configured for it, that doesn't apply here. But it's something to know going forward.

UPDATE!!!! Solved! Seems I'll not yet know how to make an Alpha, but thanks to DXT being able to save as .DDS & ORTS expecting eighter it or .ACE, Problem's SOLVED! Save as Targa in TGATOOL2 V4,..( Current ). Use DXT to Save as DDS 16-bit( can't remember ) , and the Alpha stays! Sorry, took so long. But, I'm not the sharpest Railroad spike ever laid on the railroad track bed eighter( so to speak ). Thanks everyone!

The transparent parts are the grey white hatch.
The darker grey hatch is a partial transparency, ie glass.

Windows 10. The Thing( Windows Update ) States It's ready to UPdate to 11, but IF I'd done that, I'll wait till one has W11 already purely installed to be safe. I Dled both the DXT & The Needed DLL's from MW as said. Guess, I'll go your route next.

Thanks, heard of people using it. Would it work for .Ace editing too then?

Paintdotnet is free and it will save as .dds natively and it's an all around decent paint program.

Now, where to go? I Dled & have Tried that DXT Program someone tried telling me about. Sounds & looks awesome. However,..there's a problem, requires: MWACE DLL or something like that. See this site: https://fly.to/mwfx but, when gone: 404 error not found. So, I'd gone back "Manually" & DLed The DLLs ( Unless You already have them as it said ). So, by installing this, it should help the & clear the issue? I just don't want to make the wrong move(s).

Thanks, I was just about to Ask about It or any other Program to use! But, I went to MW Graphics & DLed it. I was gonna Ask on how to use it & such. It did say Higher Res. Allowed & such. .DDS Allowed as well. Maybe PM A Copy on Directions for more Easement too? .DDS is more Complex it seems btw & more higher compression rate. I'll stick to .ACe but let Open Rails read .DDS It likes since It allows both. Not touch .DDS unless Other s have Updates in The F/L.

I've. tried & been trying, but still needing help while saving extra copies JIC. Alphas seem to go away, & "Can't save due to unknown source of ACE"? I push Create Alpha Template, & Copy what was there already. DXT Compression's not available on this one( & I believe it's the latested version Updated TGATool2a Too ).

Using DXTBMP It's really easy . Open the "Original " ace with the alpha included . Under the "Alpha " setting go to extract the alpaha . click yes , ok . Name the"alpha you extracted and place in the ace you created. Now open your image with DXTBMP and import the "Alpha "into your image . At the bottom of the "Alpha " setting Click apply alpha to image and you should be done . This applies too both ace and dds .

I've ran into a simular Problem, but was .DLL Problem prior. Now, I'm sure I'm using ACeIt ( Must Use AceIT & Register? ). But, how would I go about adding Alphas back on? I've tried just copying the Black+white parts but nothing. Thing with .DDS btw, Granted .SFM now able to view but .TGA not ( till can get an add on there ). I do remember, there wasn't a problem & TGSTool2a did just re-write & keep the Alphas over the new Pasted Texture to make a new Repaint happen too! And, What's The Latest In The F/L 4.0,,,,? BTW, It's a Lil off what's The New FFEdit Replacement Tool/Program Located in The F/L that came out back in '21? Made by The same Guy Who does .SMS Checker.*. Thanks for The needed Help Pete.
