Missing Tracks in Rio Grand Southern 4

Hi Kent-2,
With respect, you have not installed the route correctly.
As stated, I followed the instructions word for word this afternoon and successfully ran it using Open Rails v1.5.1. Although there are a large number of World file errors, there are no reports of any missing track sections, proved by starting activity 40 South Out of Rico. I did not have to re-copy N1t shapes, or any others. Also, checking the route with Route_Riter didn't report any missing track sections.
Cheers,
Ged
Edit : The World file warnings are created due to a utility named TS DB-Utility being run on the route - it adds a note to the end of each World file, after the final close bracket. The warnings are a bit of a pain in that they clog up the log file, but, as far as I am aware, they may be ignored.Last edited by slipperman; 11-15-2023, 17:49.

This redundancy seems to consume an unnecessary amount of real estate on my hard drive. Can I just delete it?
I think the confusion is caused by this:
ONE ---- In the library is a file rgsv4.zip which contains ALL the parts for the mini-route, GLOBAL folder, TRAINS/consist and trainset within and the ROUTES folder.
or The OTHER ---- ALSO in the library are three zip files rgsv4-global.zip rgsv4-trains.zip rgsv4-routes.zip that have the parts in individual zip files.
You only need to download one or the other, and the instructions.
IF you download rgsv4.zip and the three other files you will indeed find a situation that has two routes..."recursive" would apply.

Apologies for barging in...one last thing, got everything set up, no problems, route loads and displays correctly, all tracks, etc. Apart from some steam locomotive settings warnings in log and a couple of shape files missing, nothing else of any consequence. Don't usually run NG steam, but this looks very interesting. Nicely done.Last edited by R. Steele; 11-15-2023, 20:21.

Just in case there's any confusion over what a mini-route is... it's not as complicated as it used to be under MSTS, where the executables had to be copied over.
In ORTS, a mini-route should be its own parent folder **NOT** in your regular MSTS/ORTS folder structure, with subfolders for Global, Trains, Sounds, and Route.
You don't need the executables for ORTS or MSTS there, as ORTS allows you to choose from different locations.
I run all my train simulation off my E drive, and right now have three different locations for content:- e:\TrainSimulations (my Train Simulations routes which have DDS track textures)
- e:\RGSV4 (for the purposes of testing this particular thread)
- e:\MSTS (my default location for routes that behave with others and use ACE track textures)
Our departed friend Otto was obsessed with mini-routes, and wrote the following tutorial:
"MINI ROUTES the EASY WAY" There can only be one "Installed" from CD version of the Microsoft Train Simulator on your computer which the REGISTRY is aware of and it must contain all its 6 default routes needed for the installation of add-on Routes using an Installme.bat. New routes also can only be created by its Geometry Extractor, but can be moved to a MINI Route afterwards! COPY the Train Simulator main folder's contents and all its sub-folders to another part of your hard drive, preferably a logical drive partition, after creating a new folder for it which can be called what you like. A meaningful name for the MINI Route perhaps and the shorter its Path then the less typing there will be when creating Desktop Shortcut target lines for it as shown below. I created a AA-MINI-MASTER Copy to be re-used as and when. Observe the MINI MASTER's empty
Again, this was how it was 20 years ago. Today, you don't need to replicate the executables nor should you need the 1033, Fonts or Utils folders.Last edited by eric; 11-15-2023, 21:04.If you like what you see here at Trainsim.com, be it the discussions and knowledge in the forums, items saved in our library or the ongoing development of our TSRE Fork, I hope you'll consider a paid membership to help support keeping the site operating.... Ged, what I meant was that the folder structure seems a bit convoluted and possibly wasteful. I have my primary "MSTS" folder. Under that There is a folder named, "ROUTES." Within that ROUTES folder is a folder named, "Rio Grande Southern," which seems to contain the entire route including GLOBEL, SHAPES, TERRTEX, etc. Pretty much everything needed as far as I can tell. But then there is yet another folder named, "ROUTES" in which I find a sub-folder named "RGS-4." That sub-folder seems to include another complete version of the entire route. So, this is why I'm rather confoozed.

Cut the "Rio Grande Southern" folder from your MSTS\ROUTES folder, and move it a couple levels higher, e.g. same folder or root drive as your MSTS folder so that they're peers, not a parent-child relationship:
examples:
d:\MSTS
d:\Rio Grande Southern
or
d:\trainsims\MSTS
d:\trainsims\RioGrandeSouthern
You should probably also remove the RGS-4 from MSTS\ROUTESIf you like what you see here at Trainsim.com, be it the discussions and knowledge in the forums, items saved in our library or the ongoing development of our TSRE Fork, I hope you'll consider a paid membership to help support keeping the site operating....
