Hi a little question here, I Just Downloaded The L&PS Route from the the file library and it says I need an Msts Installation. I was wondering if there was a way to install it without Msts installed.
I am new to Open Rails/Msts so I don't know what to do

I recall the route was built with custom-made track pieces and non-standard TSection file that resulted in needing a mini-route setup (no sharing of the global folder with other routes). That may be what the instructions were referring to
that resulted in needing a mini-route setup (no sharing of the global folder with other routes).
Yes, that's the reason. The route will install to it's own mini-route folder. No need to install to the old default MSTS TrainSimulator folder scheme. My install shown below.

I guess the original poster referred to this passage from the L&PS route installation ReadMe1st: "The L&PS route copies some files from your Microsoft Train Simulator (MSTS) directory. Be sure you have a complete installation of MSTS before beginning."
Maybe the easiest way to find out what is meant by "some files" is to try installing the route and see if the route and rolling stock look fine in OR.
Hi,
I hate to refute what such exalted members of this site have said, but I've just tried to install the L&PS route (file ID 66075) by running its SETUP>EXE file. It can't continue because it can't find many default MSTS files!! As soon as I made them available, the installation completed successfully. I accept that, once installed in this way, the route will run successfully using Open Rails.
Alternatively to running SETUP.EXE, the individual .zip files could be 'manually' unpacked, but the route will still be short of some files from the default routes so although it may run OK under Open Rails, some shapes and/or textures will be missing..
Cheers,
Ged
EDIT : The above is for v2 of L&PS. The same seems to apply to v3.01 (file ID 75816).

For what it's worth here's my 2 penn'orth (or 10 cents if you prefer). I extracted the route to C\Microsoft Games\Train Sim-LPS. ( My main Trainsim stuff is in C\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator). The route runs fine but there are numerous 'scenery object failed to load' errors - see attached log. I then downloaded the default files that Eric kindly pointed out and put these in the LPS folder then ran the exe file again so they could be copied if needed, but I still get the same errors in the log.

The batch file used to copy assets from the default routes to the LPS is looking for specific folders to copy from.
Such as H:\1 MSTS Full Install1\ROUTES\USA1. If the default routes are not where they are supposed to be in relation to the LPS then the batch will fail..
The default routes need to go in the ROUTES folder so they can be located. You will only need the route's shapes and texture folders.
Randy I'm pretty sure my default routes are in the correct folders as I could see the LPS exe file extracting stuff when I ran it. But just to make sure I then downloaded the default files that Eric mentioned and put them in the ROUTES folder alongside the LPS route, unfortunately to no avail.

Nick

Also, if you have MSTS installed in the Program Files folder Windows will not allow the batch file to write to it because it's a Windows protected system folder.
It'll act and look like it's working but it ain't.

But my MSTS is installed in C/Microsoft Games/Train Simulator.....( I have edited my earlier post #9 which had incorrectly indicated it was in Program Files )

Running the installer and referencing the folder where I did the default shapes upload, installation fails.
If I creating a new text file and renaming it to train.exe in the folder where I did the default shapes upload, the installer works.
It's a great route, and Maybe someone can prod Nick or Wayne to create a 20th Anniversary installer that's not tied to MSTS.
I'm uploading a "clubbed" version that skips the installer to the library. It does throw a few errors for missing static objects (track that's not in the TDB), but for now, it runs.
