MSTS may or may not be needed for this Route, but you may need some of the Gobal Folders/Files from MSTS to make OR work. Also if you intend to download other Routes some may need to copy files from MSTS, especially from the default Routes. So to be honest it won't hurt to have MSTS installed just in case.

MSTS is not installed "With" Open Rails....they are two separate executables. For the present regarding installing MSTS --- follow Eric's advice in his post #32, unless you really want to run MSTS --- then simply install the program in C:\MSTS. ( or follow the tutorials )
People have all sorts of installations for Open Rails, depending upon their setups and preferences....for your stage of experience best to start with installing the stable version of OR following the tutorials. You can always modify your install later.
Everything I use for Open Rails is installed in the main directory >>> C:\ORTS. My OR profiles ( routes by geographic region are installed in C:\ORTS\OR_Profiles.
The different versions/branches of the simulator program that I run are installed in C:\ORTS\ORTS_ Programs

NFR was my first route in MSTS journey, and also I learn route building from this route. But I didn't get any issues like this since 7 yrs. The screenshot you are showing here isn't clear for me. But I guess this is route related problem and you need to modify it yourself. Still you facing this issue then you can contact me for errorless NFR.
