I would like to set and name the siding tracks in the large yards of CSX A&WP route, but I have no idea what the names for these sidings are in reality. The yards involved are MARRIETTA [sic] YARD, TILFORD YARD, CSX'S CHESTER YARD and CSX S&N YARD. Can anyone tell me what the real siding names should be or where I can find the names? I'm doing this just for myself, so I don't want to put anyone through a lot of bother, but if you have it handy ….
Thank you for the suggestion. I took a look at Tilford Yard in Google Maps - it's huge. I think the layout in CSX A&WP trainsim route is just a small representation of the real thing.
I think I will just a go ahead and just number them from the outside in! 🙂
Tilford Yard is history thanks to Evil Harrison. The Atlanta area yard now is at, I believe Fairburn. I don't have any track charts but you might check Ebay for CSX charts. I know that the former Railfandepot site that is now listed in parts on Ebay has a number of CSX charts. The prices are quite reasonable. Although I am retitred from Southern (1965-78) and CSX (1980-2001) my own expertise is L&N.
Thanks Jerry. I'm not that serious about naming the sidings as they really are, so I will leave it at that. Anyway, let me take this opportunity to thank you for your routes which I have enjoyed running over the years.
Thanks David. I have several more in the works and as I can, I will release completed routes, or as in the case of a couple already, I will release unfinished routes because others ask for them or can fluff them out better than I. I keep a list and my son-in-law who is more computer literate than my wife knows what to do with any that are not finished when I get my last Form A and running orders. Health is great but at 85, who knows?
I see you are from Calgary. This past Feb. our pastor's son married a young lady from Calgary, though they met and will live in Vancouver. He expected it to be terribly colder than Florida and so I loaned him a Arctic Parka that I had worn a lot during my Southern RR days, and his wife nearly smothered me and my wife for doing it as she said he was not taking the weather seriously enough. Turned out that the coldest it got that weekend was in the 40s F and another acquaintance I have that lives in Winnipeg said it was a balmy weekend-----.
Yes, Calgary can get very cold in the winter, especially with the windchill. But occasionally in the winter the weather will go up by 10 to 20 degrees when we get one of the famous warm Chinook winds. In the summer it can get very hot - around 90°F — so we have to be prepared for anything.
