Vote yes, to the return of (SLI) Scenic Sub Route

TS member Joe Lawernce created a Mixed Intermodal Pack (File ID 70656) that requires shape files from the payware SLI Scenic Sub Route. His "Read Me" file instructs…

In the SLI.FREIGHT folder, copy the following files--
    -the file "BNSF_husky1_2h.s"
    -the file "BNSF_husky2_2h.s"
    -the file "BNSF_husky3_2h.s"
    -the file "BNSF_husky4_2h.s"
    -the file "BNSF_husky5_2h.s"
    -the file "BNSF_husky6_1h.s"
    -the file "BNSF_husky7_1h.s"
    -the file "BNSF_husky8_1h.s"
    -the file "BNSF_husky9_MT.s"
    -the entire SOUND folder

This is just one example of the need for accessibility to this route. So many packages posted on Trainsim.com utilize parts of the SLI Scenic Sub Route that it begs is there any way to get the complete route? I am looking to buy, not looking for a hand-out.

If you want the Scenic Sub route to return, post a 'yes' onto this thread.

I think there are substitute shape files from other sets of SLI-TS intermodals --- there are members who keep track of such things, maybe they will see this thread....I could very well be wrong.

The shapes listed are from the V1 of the route and are quite old. all of those rolling stock models were replaced with V2 and were not reused even in the first version of the "starter route" they are basically the same models as the ones from MLT's Cascade crossings route or the V1 of SLI's Seligman route.

that repaint pack is 16 years old and there are many newer free cars available in the file library that are not nearly 2 decades old.
There are many sets done by Andrey Tucker-Wells all are excellent quality. And if you want or need to create replacements for that specific set and you don't mind it being Open Rails only then the NAVS default replacement for the 48ft AP well car is a good option and there is an excellent repaint kit that is available in the file library.

If I'm not mistaken, outdated activities only remain available with the caveat that it becomes the late-arriving downloaders responsibility to be able to substitute any missing equipment. This ragging on vendors to make these late arrivals 'whole' has to stop.

I would alternatively propose deleting all of Joe Lawrence's activities from the library to avoid the problem, and spawn more NEW activity creation that utilizes actual OR-grade content. I'm talking about new Open Rails activities that do NOT have a laundry list of library rolling stock that is prefaced by "MSTS".....

            I must disagree.
            a) The decision to remove anything from the library must be up to the author, unless it violates copyrights or original author's permissions of use.
            b) Many of us still have and use that MSTS Stuff and enjoy doing so, and might want to upload them if they didn't already.

Might I suggest that simliar things be placed with a Warning, "This requires Payware No longer Available" as it becomes known.

For lvlender and others, best learn how to substitute rollingstock with what you have or is available.

I personally disagree. The flow of activites is rather dry, hardly enough to replace the vareity of MSTS activites with ORTS ones. Would deleting the MSTS activites encourage development of more modern activities? Probably, but also, it could be disheartening to many who are looking for more activities.

What I suggest, and I've been doing with some of these older activites, is upgrading them for OR. Initally by replacing engines with more ORTS ready versions, then furthering that into various improvements to the activites themselves. I've been busy doing the first, but planning on doing the second, along with replacement rolling stock packs for older SLI routes.

I agree that rewriting/updating old activity files and their associated consists files would be a worthwhile endeavour.

I would choose 'no' as my vote, considering that the old Scenic Subdivision route is old and doesn't hold up with the current standards with the current version of Scenic offered by TSN is still good, with it offering BNSF EMD GP38-2, GE C44-9Ws and GE ES44ACs, and Amtrak GE Genesis locomotives with some variety of freight and passenger rolling stock (including a freebie BN Caboose), and some activities to go with it.

However, as someone who like having a collection of older content, I wouldn't mind having them that is if I find them to look good enough as it is, then I'm fine with it, but I suppose having something new of existing thing is better than having something old.

I could wonder if TSN could have done something about doing an overhaul on some locomotives they included in their route products like the GE B40-8, EMD SD70MAC, EMD SD75Ms and SD75Is, but I leave that thought about them as TSN got a lot of things on their plate. I would vote 'yes' for 'newer' B40-8s, SD70MAC, SD75M and SD75Is for BNSF like an Scenic Sub Division, but in my perspective it won't happen for now.

The original V1 Scenic and Seligman routes are some of the few things I'm actually OK with leaving forgotten. Both were later replaced with outright better versions and you can even still get Seligman 2.0. Scenic is a more challenging topic as the starter route is Scenic but not with the same rolling stock (some high quality SD40-2 models are now lost to time...), but that doesn't change that there's no good reason to keep the original version on sale still.

I'm not inclined to vote. Simply because this is a matter for the vender to decide. Go shopping say for a shirt and find a brand and style you like. Go back to the store six months later and you can't find them anymore, replaced by some other style and/or brand. That's just business.

I vote nay, simply in regard to the fact that we have a freeware version that beats the older competition.

                          No offense to SLI.

I can’t vote at this time but I would say that they should make a whole new version of the scenic sub and have it extended all the way to Seattle and set it in the timeframe of the Mullan Pass (late 2010’s-present) and i do agree that we do need upgraded versions of the rolling stock that was made for the Scenic Sub such as the B40-8, SD70’s and SD75’s, ES44DC in H2 scheme, and Amtrak Equipment in the starter route could also use an upgrade to Shasta Coast Starlight/Auto Train Set standards

Perhaps, but I'm more of a person who likes to model my trains in the 1980s and 1990s, and the probability of modeling in the 2000s in some capacity along with modeling the current day era isn't really my thing...?
