    Derby Rail Shops project thread

I've actually been keeping to myself lately with projects and just releasing them. I did this, because honestly the last time I posted updates, there was very little interaction, so I figured there wasn't much interest. Well, considering the amount of downloads on my latest uploads, figured why not, can't hurt anyone..

This is something I found while scrolling for more BAR based projects. Apparently the Bangor & Aroostook had purchased some (I only found a photo of one, so I am unsure) ex Southern Pacific 89' TOFC flats. Pretty basic quick and easy patch job, with adjustments to have different trailers than the original SP TOFC from the Shasta package. I was looking at either getting some Bangor & Aroostook trailers, or Maine Central trailers on them, but I cannot find any good source pictures to work with, and the ones I do find, appear to be the much older 40' trailers. So for now, I think I will stick with the current loads.

Something else I decided to give a try, using the NAVS paint kit of the 70 tonner. Not entirely sure if I will release this or the BAR pig flat.. Not many folks are interested in New England based stuff on here..

Thanks guys, I did find some pics of the BMS locomotive in another paint scheme I may attempt as well and release them as a two pack.

I beg your pardon! As far as I am concerned there can never be enough local (New England) based stuff. I enjoy rolling stock that I have seen on the road as a rail fan.

Huge thanks to the latest TS TOFC release, I swapped out the trailers for a little better flavor of New England trailers. Now with a B&M and an REA set. I think I will stick with these for this. I did find out that the BAR had one other ex SP flat, so I may do the same, and possibly match it with the CN Expo trailer and Maybe the ex KB&S REA trailer. We shall see. They provided a lot to pick and choose from!

These are to represent freshly patched ex SP flats. I don't believe these lasted very long on the BAR, so they didn't get much grime or dirt. I believe they either became sold or scrapped not very long after the purchase. TOFC was a tough sell in Maine for some reason. Just didn't stick like it did elsewhere.

Wild Guess... Probably it was just easier to use the trucks for the whole shipping trip versus the delays caused by TOFC loading/unloading. New England states have much shorter distances to travel... though the TOFC terminals in Boston were quite busy in their heyday.

That's what blows my mind about Vermont Rail System and Clarendon & Pittsford when it came to their crazy amount of trailers. They loaded them non stop in Burlington and held them for maybe 5 years before they sold them all off.

You'll see VTR logos on trailers today, but they are typically owned by USPS or a lease company now, no more VTRZ or CLPZ on the trailers anymore.

It's been rather quiet on my end when it comes to any development. Haven't spent much time on the computer lately, been setting up decorations for Halloween. The BAR flats are still in a holding pattern. I haven't really settled on what trailers to put with them.

I started on another project in the meantime. Decided containers aren't my thing right now, so it's back to the chip car project. At least these can be spotted on any railroad of the end users choosing, unlike the EMRY/NBSR ones I did, which I plan to redo perhaps with better photos.
