Russian Route?

Surely that author of the stock had a route in mind when he prepared the stock!

I am sure that is quite possible, but have you checked the files, they date back to 2003, early days of MSTS. I would venture they were originally posted on another, and now most likely defunct website where there was Russian Routes and equipment.
Have you tried contacting them : E-MAIL: info@project-sim.net - ( taken for their file on the download ) though again that goes back to 2003 so may not be valid anymore.

Sadly, all russian routes I know about are distributed as exe files (some really nice ones are on trainsim.ru). I completely get why you wouldn't want to risk downloading exe-files from russian sites...

But perhaps this could be an alternative:

Estonian creator "Soobel" has made two fictional Estonian routes which are available as rar files on his site here: http://soobel.planet.ee/MSTS/Routes/

Estonia used to be part of the Soviet Union but is now an independent democracy and part of the EU. It's rail network uses russian broad gauge and a lot of railway equipment with soviet origins (although less and less today).

The routes are over ten years old but still quite nice. "Soobelroute" has about 90 miles of broad gauge and about 60 miles of narrow gauge track (Estonia was famous for it's extensive 750mm narrow gauge network of which almost nothing remains today). "Soobelroute2" is narrow gauge only (and about 47 miles long). Russian/Soviet equipment is right at home on these routes.

I've had both routes for many years and never had any issues with them.

Looking for Russian routes, I came across a reliable site I used from 4-5 years ago, and has about some 30 routes to offer:

Check into: http://www.trainsim.ru/

The route files and web information is in Cyrillic, but the right click command "Translate to English" will usually bring up an understandable information. However many have
the station names in Cyrillic also, so playing around with the TDB and a translator program, while tedious work, will let you change the station names to English

The website also has cars, diesel and electric locos and for the routes that used them....MU railcars. Site requires a small registration procedure, but all downloads are freeware

Same here -- I've had good luck with Trainsim.ru, but can understand some of the hesitance.

If someone wants to upload a working route or one that's had some of the Cyrillic replaced by English, by all means feel free to do so as long as proper credit is given.

I just noticed something about the Russian downloads in our library. They are listed as North America with Russa in parenthesis. No wonder the Russians are accusing us of being colonialists.

Yeah, don't worry about that one. What's in parenthesis matters -- that's the Region field in the file database.

Where there are separate region/country sections e.g. "North America", "India" and "World" -- those are ultimately being combined, with the new Region field taking its place.

Digging back into the grey matter......I also came up with the addresses of a couple of other Russian websites for routes as well as cars and engines.

Most of the sites are in Cyrillic, but right click "Translate to English" usually will solve the problem. Most sites require a free registration / log-in to use the Forums or Download sections

ONE IMPORTANT THING TO CAUTION AGAINST.................DO NOT download a file (route or rolling stock) and upload as a re-post here on Train Sim.com. TWO of the websites have explicit instructions in their "User rules" THAT FORBID DOING THIS, REGARDLESS OF POSTING A "CREDIT TO WHOM" THEY imply there will be severe penalties for doing this and you could be the next Brittney Greiner if caught.

Other than that, have fun with the routes.....I am working an activity on the DEMITROV_NEW route, and it's going nice ......one also other advice....many of the routes have NONE OF THE ACTIVITY material (Paths, Service, Traffic) so designing one will test your skills. Usually the internet has access to most Europe railway sites for trains & schedules, and another great site that is Czech Republic https://www.vagonweb.cz/?lang=en.............shows pictures of passenger stock, train consists (for 30 plus years ago) as well as car numbering and data

By all means do observe the licensing if it's explicitly stated regarding distribution.

I downloaded Suoyari V2 over the weekend, and the scenery is quite good. Feels just like Northern Wisconsin or Michigan's Upper Peninsula...





For safety, I ran the installer on a virtual PC (VMWare Workstation is free for personal use), and it ran without any alerts or concerns aside from the normal warning about an unsigned executable. That aspect of downloading from the hosting sites is a risk some might not want to undertake.

It included Paths, but nothing else as far as activities. Took me about 20 minutes to get eight paths done thanks to some help from Google Translate (you can paste the Cyrillic and get English output)

It came from Trainsim.ru, and beware that it is a setup EXE and you'll have to guess which buttons to push if you don't read Russian...
