Route - Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacífico (Chepe)

The Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacífico (Chihuahua-Pacific Railway), also known as El Chepe from its reporting mark CHP, is a major rail line in northwest Mexico, linking Chihuahua City, to Los Mochis and its port, Topolobampo. It crosses the Sierra Madre Occidental, part of the range that in the United States is called the Rocky Mountains.

It runs 673 km (418 mi), traversing the Copper Canyon, a rugged series of canyons that have led some to call this the most scenic railroad trip on the continent. It is both an important transportation system for locals and a draw for tourists.

The tracks pass over 37 bridges and through 86 tunnels, rising as high as 2,400 m (7,900 ft) above sea level near Divisadero (the continental divide), a popular lookout spot over the canyons.

Each one-way trip takes roughly 16 hours. The track also crosses over itself to gain elevation.

Thanks a lot, this route is very complex I am progressing very slow trying to place the required track profile to achieve the right altitude.... I will share the progress....

Several kms later I will find the "El Lazo" a full loop ascending in the direction that I am going (north)

More incredible work. You've given me a greater appreciation for railroading in Mexico than I ever could've had otherwise. Would love to run these routes.

Until you started to post your work here I was totally ignorant of Mexican railroads.

            Keep up the good work.

Back in the 1970's when I was stationed in New Mexico I had planned to ride this railroad. Then I met this girl and my railfanning was sidetracked for a while. Things didn't work out with her, so now I regret that I didn't go for the train trip while I had the chance, Oh well.

I did get to ride the El Paso trolley into Ciudad Juarez though so technically I have ridden the rails in Mexico

Hello, thanks for sharing, so bad you didn't have chance to do this trip... But there is still a service train running...
I traveled the full route (Los Mochis to Chihuahua) in 2016 as first time and it was totally impressive, the way that the route was built to cross the "Sierra Madre" is amazing...
Now the train only runs from Los Mochis to Creel (and backwards) in a recently and renovated luxury train (Chepe express)...

Viaja en el Chepe Express, y vive una de las experiencias en tren más impresionantes del mundo. Reserva en nuestro sitio web oficial.

                    Thanks and regards

Hard to see in the small pics, but that looks like some of the best mountain work around!

                          Super work Rodrigoville.

Neil, I'll go ahead and say it, Rodrigoville's mountain work is the best I've seen.

Thanks a lot for the comments about this route, in fact is a fully mountain work, I am very close to complete 385 kms of 652 kms total, in a reduced part of the route are located 79 tunels and several bridges, some of this tunels are a 180 degrees to climb the mountain,

The escenario is quite easy in terms there are few towns, but the complexity is the terrain for which I have to create several track objects like tunel portals and bridges according to the real route,

There is a full loop and also there is a part where is visible 3 levels of track climbing the mountain (Temoris)

I share some videos used to recreate the escenario,

I will keep working on it...

                            Regards

                            Rodrigoville

Some shots of the first 385 kms (238 miles) of a total of 653 kms (408 miles)...

The new technic used: paint terrain using rock textures, same textures used for tunels portals...
