@steamonly. There are ways to create skydomes, they are phenomenal. There's one in the F/L that's UHR (10Kx10K res). Most of today's OR users downloaded that skydome. I find it amazingComment

THanks for the tip ZachBell4400.
Unfortunately the file search only returns 7 skydomes; the magnificient 10k x 10k skydome you mentioned -- by Scott Brunner -- seems quite blue & cheerful, like what you would see on a renaissance painting... but neither it nor the other candidates can be said to be overcast, as to soften the shadows (until it isn't obvious that ORTS doesn't draw them).
Also, is there some kind of plugin to simulate the night sky, like you can do with Stellarium or other astronomical software? I have seen that it can get very dark when you drive a train at night.Comment

Love your picture R Steele, exactly what I had in mind!
I will be sold on ORTS when somebody implements AWS on the Northeast Corridor (I am joking of course... I will try MSTS with an external sound card next week to see if it fixes something, otherwise it means my motherboard is half dead... no way to start playing on the Natal Mainline with that kind of equipment!)Last edited by steamonly; 08-04-2022, 20:05.Comment

EMR Train 208, with NBSR 8144 SD40-2 and GMTX 2639 GP38-2, screaming in notch 8 on the "Keag Hill", heading east out of Mattawamkeag, Maine.
