New problem, TSRE stopped opening Open Rails tonight but still opens MSTS just fine.

I have been using the TSRE consist editor without problems since I installed it. I have been using it to repair ‘broken’ consist files. Used it today to correct about 10 ‘broken’ consist files in Open Rails. I closed editor program to get some dinner and upon restarting the consist editor it hangs on the start screen and the screen gets greyed out. I get a message stating the consist editor is not responding.

As a test I used the consist editor to open the MSTS folder (C:/MSTS) and it opens up and displays the consists and rolling stock/locomotive files just fine. It just won’t open the Open Rails folder (D:/TrainSimulations). How do I troubleshoot the consist editor?

There is a copy of TSRE in memory that won't respond.
If you know how to use Task Manager to end task, get rid of it.
If you don't, reboot the machine.

I thought about what I was doing on the computer just before TSRE started going wonky. Just prior to the problems with TSRE, I had placed 12 rolling stock files into trainset. I erased the 12 files and, viola', TSRE opened up. I put back the files and TSRE would, again, not open. I re-erased the 12 files and TSRE is working. Not a definitive answer but, ...

Could you tell us what Trainsets you were adding, might help to figure out the problem. Sounds like they might be missing needed files of some sort.

Zip those 12 up and upload them here if it's not in the library.

I'll run it thru the debugger to see where it barfs. The TSRE log might have an entry for the last one attempted..

The files came from Trainsim.com. All the files were created by Andrey Tucker-Wells. Placing the files in the trainset folder of Open Rails seemed to cause issue with TSRE opening ORTS consists. During my problems opening ORTS I had no problem getting TSRE to open MSTS consists.
After having problems with TSRE I removed all the files from Open Rails and deleted them off my computer. Tonight, I gathered up the File ID’s as best as I could remember. I have had no further issues with TSRE since I first reported the glitch. I am not even saying I know for sure that these files caused issues with TSRE. I see these files have been downloaded over 500 times each. I guess they work, just not for me.

Odd.. I loaded them with the latest version 8.003 and had no problems.

Try using what was posted to the file library tonight (not the testing version) and let me know if it has the same issues.

Upload the TSRE Logfile as well if you do have difficulties again.

                Hi Eric,
                I don't see ver. 8.003 The most current version on the TSRE5 website ( http://koniec.org/tsre5/data/ ) is 7.012
                That release is dated 12/Jan/2022

                  That's possibly your problem.

Look in OUR file library. Link is at the top of the page.

Which version? Can you upload the log file? Chances are that it's logging detail prior to the crash which may help.

Just a follow up to the original post that started this thread.

Mine is a relatively fast gaming desktop computer. I mention this because computing power and processing time for ORTS, MSTS, TRSE5 is not an issue. I am using TRSE5 Ver. 06958.

Per TRSE5's display, the total files it loads from my Trainset folder is 4390 and total from the Consists folder 492. When starting TRSE5, the data screen can sit empty for upwards of 25 seconds before it finishes reading and then displaying the files. During that time if I re-click the 'load' bar at the bottom of the screen, I will get a "program is not responding" message from Microsoft Explorer. What I have discovered and wish to share, is that TRSE5 is apparently digesting A LOT of data and can take upwards of 30 seconds or so to display (my machine). Others machines will take more or less time.

That is a very old version of TSRE5! Goku's last version was 0.7.012. I suggest that you try that, or one of Eric's v0.8.00x

                            Cheers,
                            Ged
