OK will run as administrator. If all else fails I still have the old ConBuilder in the last version. Purchased it back maybe 20 years ago been keeping it up to date whenever it was updated. Works fine in OR. Just curious to try something new thus trying to get TSRE consist editor up and running. I have tried all you folks suggestions plus my own knowledge. I have had train sim from the first day it was released so lots of experience there.

Me also Dave, ...and I used it ALL the time up to 6-7 years ago -- however, now that I've adjusted to using the TSRE Con editor...I rarely use ConBuilder anymore. There are just too many advantages to using the TSRE consist editor.

Yes, it does work with OR, provided you NEVER add any rolling stock that uses Include lines.

FYI I only use the TSRE-CE now despite the fact that I was on the ConBuilder team for 20 years.

Well Gary. I don't give up easily as anyone who has MSTrain Simulator from the beginning knows. I am certain over the years I have spent hundreds of hours editing, fixing etc. At least Bin along with Con Builder certainly finally made it easier and more useful.

So, I will not give up on .TSRE but have to devote a little less time trying to get it up and running. I WILL get it however! many have it and use it so no reason why I can't.

Don't run steam locomotives anymore. Probably could not lift a shovel of coal. 😁

Have you been able to get the TSRE Consist Editor to launch yet?

Tried everything suggested here Working with tsre5-v8.002. Run the consist bat file. .Get the start window okay.click on browse. Click on C:\Train Simulator. at bottom get list of # of consists and rolling stock At bottom there is a green bar that says "Load" Click load and the whole TSRE window disappears . Log as below:
Bunch of "does not exist" in there. No idea what this means. All routes I have run fine in ORTS. Any ideas or help appreciated. Have spent a bunch of hours on this without ever having Consist editor run. The consist bat file does run. No icons show up on my monitor..

                    Dave,
Your problem seems to be with the file cerecent.txt
This file in in the folder where you installed TSRE. It is just a plain Text file with a list of your Train Sim installs be they MSTS or ORTS.
Here is what mine looks like:

                    c:/trains/msts
                    c:/trains/sh-orts
                    a:/msts
                    C:\Trains\MSTS-Test
                    C:\Trains\WP3
                    C:\Trains\OR_RGS
                    C:\Trains\PRR-ER
                    C:\Trains\Siskiyou
                    C:\Trains\WP3-Raw

Go to your TSRE folder and open your cerecent.txt file with Notepad or any plain text editor. Delete current contents and type the path to each of your installs. Each one on a new line. Save the file. Now run TSRE-CE batch file. FYI if the file does not exist then create one. Name it cerecent.txt and save it in your TSRE folder.

                      Thanks Charles,
I had deleted this file previously. It just replaces itself. Did not help when I deleted it. Will follow your instructions and see if that works.

Opened the cerecent.txt file. Contains the following: M:/ then, under tha,t a line C:/train simulator. Deleted that. closed and opened cerecent folder. Same entries appear again. Deleted folder, made new folder, opened, same entries are back.I have no idea what M:/ means. The second line is the path to my sim but using a forward slash after C: and lower case for train simulator. My TS folder is C:\Train Simulator

                          Dave,
You lost me. I can't follow what you did. What do you mean by " opened cerecent folder. Same entries appear again. Deleted folder, made new folder, opened" there is no cerecent folder.

                            Dave,

                            Try this:
                            Open TSRE folder.
                            Delete the file cerecent.txt
                            Open the Settings.txt file
Edit the gameRoot = line to read:
                            gameRoot = C:\Train Simulator
                            Save the Settings.txt file.
                            Run the TSRE-CE batch file
Click the Green Load bar at bottom of window.
                            Charles

Don't delete cerecent --- it will rebuild itself from defaults embedded within the TSRE code or downloaded from Goku's web server, not what's in Settings.

Erase what's in the file, and add " C:\Train Simulator " (assuming that is the directory where your MSTS or ORTS content lives on your PC)
If you like what you see here at Trainsim.com, be it the discussions and knowledge in the forums, items saved in our library or the ongoing development of our TSRE Fork, I hope you'll consider a paid membership to help support keeping the site operating.... Thanks!

My bad Charles. I meant the text file not folder.
