    tl:dr type of question.

Does TSRE handle Distant Mountain creation/setup or do we still need to do that in Demex?

Okie dokie, that does present a bit of a conflict then as DM's are pretty much de-riguer these days unless you're building on the plains, or in the case of the UK East Anglia.

While it is a serious issue, it is not a show stopper. Generally terrain and DM are only extracted once and I have found that a combination of VT (Virtual Terrain) and DEMEX do it easily. VT will convert almost any elevation module format into the geotiff format required by
DEMEX. Further, very large files are handled without burps and the conversion produces a clean file. So GokiMK continue to refine the actual editing functions of your editor. I have played with it and will probably use it to do my next route. If it is possible, it would be nice if you could have a reliable rebuild function and for me, that would be much more desirable than having DM capability.

Not to disagree with you Jerry, but IMHO if TSRE is intended as a complete replacement for the MSTS route building process, then at some point it needs to handle DM creation. The icing of the cake would be for these to display during building so you can check for any gaps or tears over the standard terrain as you build, rather than only via a test drive as at present.

Hi, help please, when I save route, my Openrails sterted crash

Well I agree with you Vern, but if it is "advertised" as not supporting DM then one can make a choice. A more important area
in my opinion deals with rebuilding the track/road database when required. That is always a "iffy" thing, so if he provided a good
method for handling that with MEANINGFUL ERROR MESSAGES it would be great. When the team was doing the PRR Eastern
route, that rather huge undertaking, I once read that they created their own program to do rebuilds. Maybe they could release
that item as a "tool". Your comment though about being able to view DM while in the editor would be very helpful. I have had to
go back and lower my DM terrain on more than one route to fill those gaps, or else use scene blockers.

I agree that DM is something that should be considered. But... remember that DM is a hack.

For new routes, would we be better off approaching the ORTS team and see if 2D terrain could be rendered at a reduced resolution beyond the viewing distance?

TSRE crashes, when I try to select one of the small texures displayed round the main texure in the "terrain" menu.

                            Editor features suggestion:

Hi there, I found TSRE5 very helpful for my route editing - an excellent work of the developement team. I have several ideas of editing features that could be helpful.

                            - while in select mode, the checkbox named "exclude tdb and interactive objects" would be fine. It will avoid to accidentaly select and move tracks, roads and signal object when editing static objects only. Alternatively the "back" command from the main menu can be used, but it sometimes not work correctly and the suggested feature will be much safe, than using "back".

                            - while in select mode, functionality (checkbox) called "lock object" would be also fine, it will lock the selected object and prevent to accidentaly select any other object, until the lock is active. It will be helpful in that case, when user want to move/rotate/adjust object and a lot of other objects are around that can be accidentaly selected/moved etc.

                            - get the cursor different color while in "place new object" and "select" mode and maybe the cursor could have adjustable size (useful for placing the objects on bridges)

                            - while saving the route, the function "save static only" would be also nice - this command will NOT change tdb/tit/rdb/rit/tsection.dat file (only .w or terrain files). When there was tdb/tit/rdb/rit objects changed, warning box will appear.

                            sincerely,
                            Radek

Just press T or R and you can translate/rotate object without worrying about selecting other objects.

                              Isn't the button colours enough?

                              You can set in settings.txt:
                              writeTDB = false
and tdb/tit/rdb/rit will not be saved. But it is risky because you can get .W file and TDB out of sync.
