I tried to edit the terrible looking Protrain Tauernbahn to get some more decent landscape. So far I've had no luck, after saving with TSRE5 ORTS crashes with the missing node message. I did not even select track or roads when editing, so I haven't got a clue what might have gone wrong.....
On the other hand I began work again on a long time ago abandoned project of mine, Steyrtalbahn, about half completed with MSTSRE. I have it nearly finished now with TSRE5, after a few hickups, it was a joy to work with TSRE5 with so much more possibilities of landscaping etc.

Maybe this route has no roads in TDB? You need to have at least one.

That was my first thought, too, but the route has lots of road with traffic.

Just tested again: loaded Tauernbahn into TSRE5, didn't do or change anything, only saved. ORTS crashes when loading with missing node message.

Can you zip the ORTS log and attach it here please.

In that case I need the route for testing. Can you send me it? You can skip the textures and terrtex directory.

Ok, someone on ET forums reminds me something. Most protrain routes uses old global tsection.dat, not this new with 40000 tracks.
If it is this case and you are editing this route using different global tsection.dat than used for building this route, route dynamic tracks and route tsection.dat will be damaged if saved in TSRE or MSTS RE. In case of using MSTS RE you need to modify dynamic track to damage the route. TSRE will always write new TDB files even if no changes in TDB, so always damage will occur. If you want to edit only landscape of this route with no errors, set "writetdb = false" in settings.txt. See TSRE user guide for more info.
If you want to edit tracks, use proper global tsection.dat or convert route tsection.dat using horace or something similar.

Thanks Goku: I set "writetdb=false", changed some of the ugly mountains, saved and, voila, no more problems loading in ORTS. Maybe another time I'm going to change the tracks, then I'll have to create a new tsection.dat. But maybe it would be easier, to build the route from scratch.

If it is a commercial, i.e. payware, route, you could get into some copyright issues if you redo it, even from scratch, and then
distribute it, even as "freeware", so you might have to keep it to yourself.

I have looked at improving or extending some freeware routes but often I find that the creator used some sort of
offset in their marker files, or used a different world geography base, so I wind up having to do it from scratch. For example,
I looked at rebuilding the CATS route that is in the library (it s a D&RGW route, Chama to Antonito) but the best markers now
must come from Google Earth, and I find that those are a good 50 meters southeast of existing markers, so when I do this
route it will be from scratch, although the originator gave me permission to work on it, so I will probably use his structures
etc. for the most part. Ron Picardi also did many items for this route, which is a fine one for the era intended (1925 or so).
It should come as no shock to my friends that this interests me - two trips now to Chama, NM and I already look forward to
                      another.

No problem at all. I don't publish my routes any more. So it's only for me and no copyright problems.

                          New update: http://koniec.org/tsre5/data/TSRE5_v0.654.exe

                          - complex tracks elevation fix.
                          - "stick to tdb" now can work on road target
                          - better osm support. Complex regions should work fine now. Paris for example:

                            Hello Piotr,

I have just released a phase 1 public beta of the LIRR and am anxious to begin work on Phase 2.
I plan on using the Route Editor you have under development.

I would like instructions on how to install the complete package I need to make use of all the features of your Editor.
I plan to install the main folder of your Editor on my desktop. This is where I have the Open Rails folder installed also.
Both folders undergo frequent update and on the desktop it's easier to keep track of.
Thanks for your efforts and hey, give my route a try. lirr_install.zip
This is the route I'll be editing.
If you want to know the exact location of the construction zone, just ask. Thanks again!

                            Regards, vince
