    Missing Seasonal Ground Textures

For the past few months, I have been running activities I have created for the MRL-Mullan Pass route, and generally try to set the season in the activity setting to match up w/the current actual season. So today, I switched over to Winter from the Autumn season in the Activity Settings window. When I launched the sim, none of the ground textures were present. (See Attachment) The route's ground textures all appear in the TerrTex folder and show up normally in the other 3 seasons in the sim as well as in the Route Editor. But none appear in the sim when I switch over to the Winter setting.
So my question is, do the TerrTex ace and/or dds files need to be placed in other folders w/n the TerrTex folder? I have not modified this folder from the original d/l, so its not a matter of any files having been deleted or moved to a different folder.
Thanks in advance for any advice...clint

Hi Clint - I don't have that Route, but in all other Routes the only other TerrTex that are used are in a sub-folder "Snow".

I would say, but surprised that the Route did not come with those seasonal Terrtex, as I said I don't have to that Route to see what came with it. At least by copying you'll have ground textures. though they may not be what they should be for Winter and Snow. Maybe someone else knows something more about that Route.

DO NOT Copy other textures to the Mullan ---- as with other TS routes made for OR, it uses dds NOT ACE files. My copy of the route, has all the snow/winter textures. Sounds like, perhaps, there was a mishap in how the route was installed on your setup. I'd delete the route, and reinstall, following TrainSimulations instructions to the letter. ---- or wait for other members to weigh in.

Please search the forum -- there has been much discussion about missing textures when people mis-installed the route.

these are the files that are in the SNOW sub directory of the Terrtex directory in my copy of Mullan (which also includes the Add-on) I just ran it in the current stable version of open rails with the season set to winter and the weather set to clear and it displayed the correct textures for both tiles and distant mountains

Thanks for all the info. I will just delete the existing copy of this route & start over w/a new d/l & see what happens. clint

Most interesting after a deep look. Though I don't have this route, the TS Starter Route appears to use a similar format. Though there are plenty of TerrTex textures, but in "Snow" there are only a few textures with a different naming structure. - In older MSTS Routes the "Snow" textures used the same names as the regular textures they replace. I hadn't noticed that difference before.

So rather than spend time trying to find & fix a problem w/my current version of the Mullan Pass route, I repurchased the route earlier today & installed it in a separate mini route folder from the previous version. I immediately opened the route in RE & it looks fine, but when I launch the sim using the winter season & clear weather, there are still no ground textures visible. The dds files for forest, microtex, and DefaultDM & DefaultSnow are present in the TerrTex Snow folder. So I did a second d/l using the link & installed the route in yet another mini route folder, totally separate from the previous 2. I also checked to verify the presence & number of TerrTex files in the d/l....4391.
With a completely fresh d/l & install in route folders totally segregated from the original, its a mystery to me why the original problem still exists.

Are you running a current stable version of Open-Rails or an older version? I would suspect the problem is with an older version of Open rails that doesn't support the "ORSDefaultSnow" texture than a problem with the route if you just installed a new version.

Are things installed in windows protected folders? Need a log to tell.

I show the same 4391 terrtex file count, but snow has 8 files, 4 are dds and 4 are same name but bmp.

Be aware you cannot use the older MSTS RE to do any saves as it will deem any OR specific entries in route related files as unknowns and strip those lines out.

I believe that I'm running the current version of OR. Log is attached. clint

I did not realize that there was an updated version of OR. Just installed it & will see what happens w the ground textures. Thanks for the info. clint

Apparently the cause of the missing seasonal texture was that the winter texture was not supported by OR v1.4-533. Once I upgraded to the current version, said texture appears as it should.
