    CSX - Mainline 2010

Having nothing much else to do in the forums I thought I'd update the tracks and switches of the CSX route at my expense !

Here we have modern high-speed welded tracks with manual switch stands:

and here with remote controlled motorized switches:

Users can change from one to the other by just running BATCH files !

    That's what I call FUN !!!

No. The 2010 jokingly indicates that these tracks are ahead of today as far as the CSX-Mainline route is concerned and might be converted to concrete ties tracks if the railroad company can afford to spend money on them !

However, once all tracks have been laid will supply a Tracks-Changer for it, offering various track type choices. Doing it too soon then further track changes would wipe out my modifications.

CSXT has been using concrete ties on many of their mainlines since the late 1990’s.

As of yet the Rail ties from Cumberland MD to Washington DC and VA
have not been replaced by Concrete ties and i have not heard when they will do it

so i am using wooden ties which i see when i go to these places

Until i see the concrete ties i will not change them

I live 1 hours drive from Brunswick and and half hour to the old potomac rail yard which to this day are still using wooden ties.

Well SAL did some experiments with concrete ties all the way back in the 60's.

But it is highly unlikely that we will see any massive wooden tie replacements, especially on CSX anytime in the near future.

That is the beauty of train simulators, you can let your imagination run wild and make routes look the way you want them too !

That's what made me dispose of my model railway layouts which are static and expensive, £ 20000 in my case !

Now the railroads world is at my feet for a few bucks !

Yes, that one is one of the best ! Had H0 and Gauge-1 digital and patched LGB-G into the latter.

Had a lot of fun creating these lay-outs but after a while gets boring running trains on them.

No such problems with computer Train Simulators. There is never a dull moment with lots of variety !

                        Switches

That reminds me, Otto. I have not uploaded that automatic switch yet. I'll try to work on it this weekend.

I was going to remind you !

Working on my CSX tracks changer today realized again that your aaaaa automatic switch's default placement needs adjusting.

Any chance of creating a concrete ties version in addition to the wooden one, save me doing it myself, you are better doing than me !

Any chance of you letting me have your MAINLINE-LIGHT track textures mods ?

                          Take care, O t t o.

I wasn’t referring to the “Cumberland MD to Washington DC and VA” area of CSXT; I was referring to the comment –

Yes CSXT does use concrete ties. Some of the territory I ran trains over in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina for CSXT did have concrete ties. Concrete tie usage is not completely dependent on whether or not the railroad “can afford to spend money on them”. Take a look at Norfolk Southern, one of the most successful class one railroads in the US. They have some of the best maintained mainlines in the US but I haven’t seen any concrete tie usage on NS.

Back when US railroads started to use concrete ties some claimed they were breaking in areas of the US where winter temperatures are frigid month after month under heavy tonnage. Another problem is that concrete ties a lot of the time have to be completely changed out after minor derailments, where wood/creosote ties would survive with minor flange scoring. The other side of this is the fact that now with stringent environmental impact regulation the creosote ties have become very expensive for railroads to dispose of them.

Here’s an example of what can be accomplished (more excellent work from Marc Nelson) in RS when you follow the prototype, in this case CSXT track for a particular sub division in the northeast -

Here’s a typical “Pro-Back” hand throw switch, again used on CSXT and just about every other railroad in the US.
