    V3 Update Wish List

    First let me say that this is a great version, and has only made the best train simulator on the planet even better imho. Great features like AI dispatching, creating spawn points, all give much finer control to run the world in which you are capable of running. It all comes down to manpower. Small servers and single players will find this very beneficial.

    But I wanted to start a wish list. Not that this needs any of them, as is I'll be happy for years. So here goes nothing, feel free to add your ideas.

    CHAT BEEP - Not sure why it was removed for V3 but I miss this especially when on other screens. Perhaps an option if this was
    removed due to complaints of too much noise.

    MO BETTA AI SPAWNS - This was something that was mentioned back when V2 came out, but it never came to be. Probability of trains and the potential for repeat trains based on randomization is not good for those wishing to simulate realistic conditions. A TD3 like interface that allows random lateness based on the train or type combined with a call time schedule could bring familiarity, scheduling, and better optimization. Probability of trains is a simplified version that could use a much needed refining.

    LOCOMOTIVE PROBABILITY - I like some of the fallen flags and I would love to even purchase the herritage pack. The issue here is the way it works in an AI train is based on random numbers and no probability. This is where probability (similar to what is in the train spawning system would best be used).

    That's about all I can think of at the moment. I haven't run across any bugs that haven't been dealt with either with updates or help from the Run8 team. If I think of anything else I'll add it later.

      Agree with that one Mike.

      In fact my one disappointment with the Bakersfield Sub is that it uses the same sandy desert terrain texture. I have driven around that area, Fresno etc. many years ago on holiday and it is definitely not desert! Yes some of the grass is a bit dry and arid in the summer where the land isn't irrigated but it looks off to me.

      Other than that, the usual - wider selection of locos, not just GE's and GM's, maybe even steam.

      Proper timetable mode along with the ability to set specific waypoints for passenger services in particular, or a specific destination track at a yard etc. rather than relying just on the train symbol.

      Give us a green hilly route - something in the mid west to Rockies area or even Canada. Imagine Calgary to Vancouver in Run 8 as a complete route!

      Edit: Oh yes and, in the name of all that is good, give us an option to disable the alerter or at least have it suspend if the DS screen is active or you're working outside the train, switching etc.

        donner pass is coming at some point this year. they already teased roseville and they put the roseville station asset just outside of trona.

        id wonder if they would ever consider an ai local. maybe a basic one (l-cal1161).

              To be fair it does green up in the winter time. But in the summer time the areas that aren't farmland do get pretty brown. I will keep the textures in mind though if I do any updates for that route.

                Appreciate that Dave, thanks. Maybe it needs a slightly darker brown to represent dry grass as at present it just looks like desert at least to me!

                  If i re-install will have to change to winter running then Vern. Regardless of what colour the grass is. The cardboard vegetation needs to be updated. Pure MSTS era vintage.

                      Well I have to agree with Mike about the foliage. Not saying we need to go down the Speedtree route but something a little more convincing would be nice. Definitely not a whinge as the game is great, having fun yesterday evening serving the industry between Fresno and Bakersfield. But it would be better to do it in a much more pleasant and realistic environment, decent ground textures (don’t have to be PBR) and vegetation.

                        Would like to see more AI interface, with switching and backup moves if a unit is LHF. If AI is able to run forward SHF they should be able to run LHF as well I would think. Someone had mentioned automatic switching, that would be helpful for SP but Im doubting we will see it.

                          AI TRAINS THAT CAN BOTH SPAWN AS TAGS AND LOCAL
                          This is actually more realistic. Right now I have 1 train from every direction for every railroad supplying my locals.

                          AI TRAIN ALTERNATIVE TRAIN LENGTHS
                          This one is a tough one to explain. There are simply times you want smaller trains as a supply train for example. I have small locals that I would AI from Cadiz, Cajon, and Bakersfield Sub for example that would come into BARSTOW/MOJAVE. But currently it seems there is a range at which train lengths are spawned usually not too big but not small enough to represent a real local.

                          Anyways I'll keep them coming as I keep running. But to Seagoon's point yes V3 is fine the way it is for me as well. I know there have been good ideas on TrainSim added in the past such as AI Spawns and even my SHIFT 1-4 CTRL 1-4 save spawn to spot thingy to simulate a conductor on the ground.

                          Hopefully this keeps going and is civil and can be possibly tagged so the developers see ideas from our side.

                            LOCAL INDUSTRY FILTERS AND/OR MORE CAR CATEGORIES
                            I don't think my customers at Frito Lay appreciate getting potash Just like Cargill shipping plastics (you get the point). Either a 2nd filter (similar to the car selector in standard AI needs to be added in or we need more categories). This is why I'm very selective in what I purchase from Run8Studios knowing that certain traffic comes into the system that may not apply to certain industries.

                            CHEMICAL TAGS TO GENERATE FOR SPECIFIC INDUSTRIES OR TRAINS
                            I like the new tags but unfortunately they can't be added to the various tanks by AI spawns. I would still like an option to see it though.
