Maybe (in time) something like the Creators’ Club for TSW could be added, which would allow limited approved distribution of reskins etc. Not that I’m any good at artwork so not personally of interest to me! Though I would like a R8 scenario editor but that’s for a separate discussion.

Technically the files are encrypted and in the US it's a grey area on whether or not this is actually a felony under the ECPA (Electronics Communication Privacy Act) Mostly that covers encrypted radio however, the files are encrypted for a reason

You can't really get on someone who does it for their own personal use, the problematic and the really illegal part is when those files are transmitted electronically, then that's where the illegality really begins.

but we really don't want to be put in a position of seriously encrypting everything, it's a huge PITA, and it ruins the fun for those who have behaved themselves

then we have to devote resources to protecting our interests vs developing new innovations.

its a respect thing i guess

Mods and pirated software are great and all for the end user but it's a double ended sord. The big companies who have a niche actually support mods because it reduces competition from the smaller companies. So where MSTS has a big community trying to sell a route in it is very difficult because of this and other games etc. to the point why bother.

Finally prices right now have not inflated as much as other products. That's because things are harder to crack and there is more developers and more competion. Trains are just a micro niche of other popular niche games. Still Run8 has a loyal enough following as is.

To be honest it's often about people not wanting to save their money or earn more to simply afford to be in a position like others. Life is about choices.

    Thanks

The thought of breaking the code or even leaning towards what you might be thinking and changing code would be considered against your EULA on purchase and not condoned here on TrainSim.

that is definitely a EULA violation

Not that I know of. I can't even read the length and weight of the cars (actual and not rounded such as the TMU). These are locked up in protected files.

There is no supported editor in Run8. Still personally I wouldn't run anything else. I'll purchase what I need, when I need it.

    Thanks

It's not that difficult, however as far as I know you'll have to purchase more cars in order to get more variety. Basically once you have a car you can change the texture on it but it's not like you have hundreds of new cars. It also doesn't change the reporting marks or the number board fonts as far as I know.

    Thanks

One can "Hack" just about any file(s) with the correct tools.

V1 was very popular for "Hacks.
V2 not quite as much, still do able, which some of those later models may be carryover to V3.
With each "Hack" more safety measure(s) come along with further updates, nature of the beast.

It's when thing(s) go wrong, that can become a problem. & Can
very much understand the team not wishing to support that position for the moment.
